What was the 'Main Strip' you drove around in your town.

In Oklahoma City it was 39th Street.
Big 6 lane Boulevard.
Stoplights every half mile.
Lots of people racing their cars.
Little Police presence.

I think every town had a place like this.

you know, the kids now a days don't drag race like we did back in the day.
I never see any of that out on the streets.
I guess it interferes with texting and shit.

We would "cruise the strip", it was a few blocks that went around the local movie theater. Sounds like some shit from the 50's or something now that I think about it (I'm only 30).

The cops were assholes in my town, so we didn't do the strip thing. There was a big huge giant parking lot on a main drag that people would hang out at on Friday and Saturday nights in town, but we were in the suburbs and outskirts so we didn't make the drive in. I guess our "strip" was just the dirt roads outside of town.

They don't have V-8's with quad carbs and dual exhausts and motors that sound like they mean business either.

Not really, didn't really have anything worth racing. We always had our fair share of police lurking the perimeter too.

We had a way of cutting off the police, with all the side streets and shit we would just get 8 or 10 deep and keep them behind whoever was racing. By the time police could get around and through all the lights the racers were long gone into the neighborhoods.

Heck yeah. Me and a friend used to go to South Cobb Drive in Marietta, Ga. and race his 400 stock Chevy Nova every Friday night and some Saturday nights. We only lost once to a guy in a monster of a car. It's amazing that we never got pulled over or arrested. Really amazing when I think about it now.

My dad's told me all kinds of stories about racing when he was in high school. My grandfather was a car dealer and owned a body shop so my dad always had badass cars. He's still got a 79 Trans Am and a 66 Charger.

In Alabama - Krogers parking lot.

In Nashville, we didn't have any strips to cruise, but we hung out at the Bellevue mall a good bit.

My nephew never dragged main while he was in high school just a few years ago. Too busy creating drama on Facebook I guess. I don't think kids today really get what it was like though, of course they don't have the drive-ins we had back then either to park and talk, now it's drive thru and get your ass out.

jebus!...my son's older than you.
:suds:

Pine Grove Avenue. Port Huron, MI. 5-lane asphalt laid in 1965...ran straight as a string almost two miles without a light (they did install one in 1967 on Sanborn St, but nobody really took notice.) Was usually one or two major match races every night - hardcore street racers would flock up from Detroit. When the cops showed, most folks knew what country side road the races would be moved to.

Cruising, s'far's I'm concerned, has never lost it's appeal...I love being on the road.

Too many to name. When we went Cruising we usually went down Devonshire to Topanga Canyon, down to Ventura, down to Sunset, up Sepulveda and back down Devonshire.

I was just up in the thumb... Sebewaing every fall for duck hunting. Bay Port, Grindstone... it's pretty cool out there.
