I know there are a million smart ass answers to this lead-in but I'm serious.
Why can't we have a "Display Mode" option button so that the viewer can select how they wish to view posts?
Here is a url to show what it can look like.
http://forums.**************.net/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=2
Click any thread such as
http://forums.**************.net/boards/showthread.php?t=10233
Now, click the "Display Mode" button on the right side of the 2nd blue bar from the top.
The drop-down menu lists three viewing options: 1) Linear Mode, 2) Hybrid Mode, and 3) Threaded Mode.
I like the Hybrid mode. It gives a "flow chart" at the top so the reader can see who has responded to what posts and then it also gives a group of responses in a linear mode to any chosen post.
This type of display options would be helpful for merged posts as one can clearly follow all the grouped posts instead of having the responses interwoven as they currently are.
