Has to do something with Chris Paul and money??? Someone help me here. I know the teams giving up the guys are trying to free up a little cash for FA, but what is in it for the Rockets? That many players is odd.

They're also non guaranteed contracts. Suppose that is why. But why give up cash for them? I suppose since it doesn't count against the cap?

They are stacking players with non-guaranteed contracts to take advantage of some salary cap loopholes. Someone better educated in cap specifics could surely answer what those loopholes are. They do have a plan though.

I know there has to be a plan, just curious what the loophole is. Seems like NBA is a lot of mind games with the cap.

I think it has something to do with the mid level exception. If they stay over the cap they have more options somehow. I don't really know though. It is something kind of weird I think.

Just noticed the Rockets traded Wiltjier, Hilliard, Liggins to the Clippers to make the Chris Paul trade work. Looks like Houston and LA are just using players to make a trade work and nobody really knows where these guys will be in a week.

They are going to use those non-guaranteed contracts to match up salaries in trades.

They are doing everything possible to finish as the 3rd best team in the West.

It is a lot of activity that doesnt seem to even remotely make them in the Warriors class.....and frankly they are probably not even good enough to beat San Antonio or Cleveland either.

They have to do something to sell tickets, they had to basically give away dogs and beer to get people to come to playoff games last year.

It's offseason so they roughly unlimited roster spots. So they are using that to trade for those contracts to use their salary figure to hit cap number required to make the Paul trade work. That way, they don't have to give up a better player like Gordon or Capela. They can fill everything in with low contract players.
