:suds:

Gonna be a hell of an off-season

FYI: Hammel is signed through 2018 w/ an option for '19. He's got $90m left on his deal... He'd be a trade acquistion this month.

Still, there will be a lot of teams throwing a lot of money around on who's left.

I still find it interesting that Scherzer turned down a 6 yr/$144M offer from the Tigers. I guess he wants to measure his true value on the open market.

Personally, I think it's more about his agent wanting to break records.

I just have a funny feeling Ned is going to overpay to get him to Chavez.

Lester has been scratched from tomorrow's start. Sounds like a deal is imminent. Please don't let it be the O's. Rosenthal tweeted that his source tells him that Brewers are not in on Lester.

Miami, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, LA, Toronto, Baltimore, Oakland & St Louis are all in... I don'e beleive tweets or "sources"....

And, I still think there is a chance he is not traded. Boston wants major prospects. Teams know Lester would be a two month rental and might not be willing to sell the farm to get him. It will take a desperate team...

I understand where you're coming from becuz you're a Sox fan , but he's as good as gone right now. The Sox can let the world know it's going to take "major" prospects etc but there's a fair amount of BS in there. In the Spring the Sox made Lester an offer that was downright embarrassing for a pitcher who's as accomplished as him. They have continued to up the offer all season long and Lester won't even listen to them. The Sox tried to screw him over a few months ago and treated him as though he's a fool. He isn't. All the while Lester has kept quiet and gone about his business. No complaining in the media or to teammates. By keeping quiet he let the Sox know exactly what he thinks of them and it ain't too much. The Sox know for sure they cannot sign Lester , therefore they have no choice but to move him. Every team out there knows this. Not to say the Sox won't get some serious talent in return becuz they definitely will. They won't get what they claim it's going to take becuz they simply are not in that position. Lester has been scratched for tonite becuz the Sox have a bunch of offers in front of them and they're gonna take one of them. Right now they're trying to finish it off and get another guy from someone , but ultimately they're gonna take what they believe is the best deal and hope like hell they don't look like they got taken for a ride or didn't get enough. Lester is gone right now , it's just a matter of where he's going.

I basically agree. They will probably take the best offer. They'll wait until tomorrow night to pull the trigger....

I also wouldn't rule out a multi-team deal. Ben (as was Theo) is very good at putting these togther. I can envision Andrew Miller going to one team and Lester going to another (with Johnny Gomes/Stephen Drew/Mike Carp tossed in) - and the Red Sox (hopefully) landing a haul of top prospects....

that may very well be the case. If I'm the Sox I want to dump as much garbage in one haul as possible and they have a lot to get rid of. We could end up seeing a big time deal with lots of names involved.

I wonder if Farrell made such a big deal of announcing Workman as the starter in case Lester is traded as a way to make teams a bit more anxious. Players are scratched when they're involved in trade talks but I'm not sure if I've ever heard a manager go about it the way he did and it kind of reminds me of Scott Boras' mystery teams.

I wonder if that was the organizations way of bluffing other teams into thinking a deal is eminent so they raise their offers. This is just pure speculation on my part.

could be a little bit of everything but I like your speculation. Still I believe the Sox are at the point where they have to deal him. The talk has been very public and has gotten to the point where he has to be moved. He'll be gone soon , can't wait to see who wins this one.

I think they definitely should trade him, provided the price is right, but I don't think they need to.

I think they're firmly in the drivers seat here and that's probably why a deal hasn't gotten done yet.

Top 75-100 prospect and a throw in with upside or close to the majors.

won't argue but i'll tell ya a believe right now they're deciding which deal to take. I would bet it's pretty much done. Back to my other point about them basically being in a position where they have to move him and why. If the Sox really wanted to try to keep him they would be handling this differently. #1 they would not have insulted him with the offer they gave him a few months ago. They didn't expect it was going to turn into this becuz Lester told them to "eat shit" without ever opening his mouth. Lester has basically been the poster boy for how to perfectly handle a situation like this. He has been in total control by doing and saying nothing. Now if the Sox had any hope/interest in keeping him they never ever would have let this turn into such a public discussion. They would have come right out and said they want to keep Lester and would have proven it by making him an offer that reflects his value in this market. They chose to turn this into a circus and by doing so have put themselves in a position where they have to move him. As I said on another thread , when teams let this happen they lose control over the whole discussion about moving someone and put themselves into a position where they have to. This is where they are with Lester now and I believe they will regret this one. When it gets to this point they lose their ability to drive the negotiations becuz the blood is pretty much in the water now and teams are seeing just how little they have to give up to get a guy like Lester. We'll find out soon
