Oh heck I could care less where it is...just as long as there is a next one.

With OOC set, I don't see many other options. I guess it could be the NCG or a BCS bowl next year :noidea:

Having grown up in Oklahoma I know about the derivation of the phrase.

It has long since lost the insulting connotations it once had.

"Okie" is another matter. Most Oklahomans don't really like being called that since it recalls
a very unpleasant part of the state's past. Look up "Dust Bowl" if you aren't already familiar with the phrase.

Well I guess there is just not much left to call them: Okies, land thieves, cheaters, felons, murderers, etc...

I think I'm just gonna go with Cheating Pussies. :10:

I have no problem with being called an Okie and yes, I understand the connotations. Funny thing is, most people also think that Okies made up the vast majority of the people who fled the Great Plains and that simply is not true.

over 2 million people moved from the Great Plains during the Dust Bowl, with around 200,000 actually settling in California. Most were from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Texas.

I'd wager more were from Texas, and I'm not being derogatory, there were just a lot more people in Texas, period.

But Texas isn't landlocked as Oklahoma is. So the prolonged drought didn't hurt that state as much as it did Oklahoma.

"Oklahoman" has more letters in it, but has no insulting connotations. I prefer that to "Okie", and doubt I'm alone in the sentiment.

Well, Cheating Pussy:

Texas won its state. Regardless, we don't pride ourselves on being cheaters.

dunno, but it devastated many communities in the Texas Panhandle.

If you have read it nor heard of it, but the Worst Hard Times is a great read on the Dust Bowl, which was pretty much centered in the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles, SE Colo, SW Kansas and NE New Mexico.

FRIENDSHIP or ALLIES

That is what Texas means.

It is also our simple state motto. "Friendship"
