This year their ratings up the highest with the playoffs, and most of it is due to the violence of the sport. However, sponsors are threatening of pulling themselves from supporting the NHL if they don't clean up their act.

I will say the rivalries and dislike between all these teams during this playoff is compelling and definitely fun to watch, just adds more to the game. Obviously hits like Torres put on is not right, but for the most part these are good fashion hockey fights or shots. I hope NHL doesn't try to clean up the sport so much that it turns into the powder puff style of the NFL.

I haven't seen the ratings, so I don't know how much they are up. Do you have a source for the ratings this year in comparison to last year and the year before?

Also, I don't think ratings are up because of violence. Do you have some sort of a source for that as well?

I heard it on sports radio show on Thursday on my way home from work. They said ratings have been up from recent years; however, sponsors were upset at how much violence was going on. But I found these for any type of statistics.

Violence is part of hockey. Always has been and always should be. The blatant intent to injure stuff needs to stop. Nothing jacks up crowd and team more than a good hard clean hit or a good toe to toe fight.

TSN(The Sports Network)in Canada says their ratings are up 65% this year.Mind you they were showing Flyers/Pens between Rags/Sens and L.A/Canucks.
