As a lead up to the annual kick-off of Prediction Friday, I thought it would be interesting to find out what our members are hoping to see during the pre-season. What position battles are you watching? Who's legitimately pushing for more playing time?...who's lost a step?...Good health, or.Whatever it is, let the rest of us know.

Ok....anyone in particular in the run game, Perine perhaps? Or maybe the possible return of a newly inspired Matt Jones?
What particularly about the defense, DL, LB'ers, secondary or just the new schemes and over all play?

Well Sty I think we will see the basic fundamentals our players have been working on since training camp started. You know all those individual drills. More emphasis on fundamentals over schemes. Back ups will have and excellent opportunities to shine and show their natural talents b/c our starters will sit mostly.

My attention will mostly focus on the line of scrimmage on both sides Off and Def. I have been talking about this for yrs. Control the line of scrimmage.

These preseason games are diffircult b/c it is hard to get a good rhythm, with everyone around you is being substituted so again players will have to be graded on basic fundamentals and their natural talents. That’s why I have been watching the drills that members have been posting here.

Since I am an old George Allen admirer I cannot forget about special teams, an area in which we have been a concern for sometime now. Since it is the first preseason game, wouldn’t be surprised if we see a KOR/PR for a TD either. We have been known to allow this. Lets eliminate that and work on keeping the KOR/PR yardage to a minimal.

Backup QB is another area also. I know what McCoy can do. But Sudfeld will get my attention. I like his arm Sty. Heard he was working on the mechanic’s of his delivery. He needs to put up some decent numbers with NO!!!! TO’s either.

I expect to see a game that doesn't matter. I expect to see KC for a series or two without three of his top four targets.

I want to see Us dominate the trenches and win when it is ones against ones. I want to see us hit the right gaps and tackle. I think those are the most telling things at this point.

Just want to get a sample of new faces on D including Anderson, Brown, Allen & Swearinger. Would also be nice to see Pryor make a play or two.

Most have been mentioned. I don't expect to see much on offense. Maybe see how Sudfield has developed. And our new RB.

On defense, some great position battles are happening at OLB, ILB and CB. Hope to see how fuller is coming along. He may be pushing Breeland for time. Interested to see how Cravens does at S.

Other than that, its just great to see some football again.

I'll be watching the inside LBs, DL for pressure up the middle, Cravens at Safety and Breeland at CB considering his not so good training camp and Fuller's emergence. On offense the RBs particularly Perine on short yardage and red zone, along with red zone fades by Pryor and Doctson. And lastly, TEs particularly 3rd string.

That being said, it's only pre-season so I won't put too much stock into it at this point..

I want to see a good practice. I'm not a fan of the pre-season anymore, and I wish they didn't have these games. It used to be "back in the day", games like this would find a nugget on special teams that makes the team out of no where...and, then goes on to be a stud contributor or even a future HOF'r at a specific position for years to come.

I miss the good old NFL football. This isn't your Dad, Grandad or Great grandad's NFL youngskins. It's something totally different.

Just watch guys try to perform. There isn't going to be any game planning or scheming. It is football at it's most basic. I like to watch the young guys. I am hoping Levern Jacobs gets to make a couple of plays. He is a long shot here but if he does some good stuff maybe someone else will see him. Just going to be happy to watch some football.

Sty, even if true Kurt is right. We all know a 6 year deal is only a 2 or 3 year deal. Most long term contracts are never meant to be fulfilled. Guys who get into year 3 and 4 start getting requests from their FOs to restructure. The contract details Bruce gave to us all after the July signing period showed the same thing. That contract was going to pay Cousins the tag this year, the transitional tag the year after then decrease in yearly salary as well as give the Redskins an out. I don't have a problem either way.

It still happens at times. There will be guys who stand out because of special teams or some play later in a preseason game. I am not sure when he first was noticed, but Lorenzo Alexander made the transition from special teams player to one of the NFL leaders in sacks.

I will also say that I miss certain aspects of NFL from the past. However - I can totally understand the need to make some pretty dramatic changes given CTE & other conditions that arise for NFL players later in life that have been identified more in the recent past.

Would like to see both 1st teams play with confidence while flying around the field. No injuries! I would like to see Z. Brown make a play or two to dispel any notion he won't start. As for the young guys, Allen, Anderson, Holsey, Perine, Kalis etc get some good snaps in and hopefully shine. Again, no injuries is my biggest concern coming out of this meaningless game.

HTTR!

I'm not debating whether or not Kirk is right or wrong, just the changing perspective of the players in this league over guaranteed monies and the time under usual NFL contracts. There were some grumblings earlier this year about NFL guaranteed money vs that of Basketball and Baseball that I mentioned in another thread. I posted this:

Payday Grumblings In The NFL | The Sports Awakening
www.sportsawakening.com/nfl/sherman-contracts

I also suggested that the moves Kirk and his agent are taking is not new because one year contracts are often signed by NFL players because it's guaranteed single season money. Secondarily, the current CBA ends after the 2020 season resulting in two things happening.

1. The proliferation of one year contracts league wide leading up to that end. (which Kirk among others are doing)

2. a long protracted strike over guaranteed money/ power sharing after this CBA ends.

Bottom line: I stated that Kirk Cousins was not going to sign a LTD as far back as the 2015 post season. Honestly, why should he when the single season guaranteed money/commitment is better than any typical NFL LTD?

I have a feeling Carrier will not wind up making the roster. JR is a definite, VR and Sprinkle. Niles I am up in the air about due to his injury history, but as a skins fan I would like to see him stay.

O-Line looks like Kouandjio is in trouble, otherwise mostly stabilized. D-Line I want to see what Joey Mbu looks like compared to Phil Taylor.

As much as the preseaon's about the kids making the team and showing what they can do, I'd be surprised if Pryor doesn't stand out big - especially with Reed, Doctson, and Crowder ALL out. Same at RB - I expect Fat Rob to out-shine Perrine - who apparently is still rough around the edges. At CB, I'm hoping Fuller and Moreaux make the most of their opportunities. Sua and the Swearman will make big hits at safety but gotta avoid big mistakes; I'm rooting for Tevin Homer to get some PT and make a play. Looking for Zack Brown to show his speed. Preston Smith and Spaight need to show up and make plays. It's a given that Kerrigan will make plays early on.
