CL thats cool. I did just post what the polls are saying in LA about the deal

Is the Kobe Bryant extension a good or bad deal for the Lakers? [poll] - latimes.com

Now cmon, if the Celtics had resigned Paul Pierce or KG coming off a achilles and giving them two years near max you dont think Boston fans would have been mad? You bet they would. They would see the 1990's all over again

I agree it's more money than I personally would've paid him and have already said so on the Lakers board. That said, I see where everyone from Kobe himself on down sees the Lakers take care of their own. Once again, it isn't quite like they threw their future away...which is what some of you cats are acting like. Kupchak, Buss, and everyone else seem to think there's plenty of room to make deals with the next 2 off seasons coming up. So for now I'll roll with their opinions...

Do have a safe holiday season CL.

Its no fun without smack.

My Celtics team of the 90's deserves it for sure. Trading away Billups, still cant believe what that idiot Rick P did in those three years he was here.

This move showed the Lakers wanted Kobe around to keep generating them income.
Look at the roster without him.
Who is buying what jersey?

As far as the taking care if their own as a rule, that is bullshit.
His about Derek Fisher?
How about the ex players qualified to be head coaches that were passed over for Brown and DAntoni?

Now CL, you have to admit, all these silly moves are worthy of a opponents smack, right?

Its just so funny. I would swear Pitino is behind the scenes (when not on the pool table)

Now that guy fleeced us all in Boston

Pitino was your coach for 5 years. How do you explain the other 20+ years of irrelevance? Are you going to blame him for the next 20+ years of irrelevance too?

I agree with you on the first statement. It's pretty much 100% spot on. Over the next 2 seasons, Kobe will make the Lakers more money than they will ever pay him, just as he has throughout his career. The Lakers will also still have cap space to try and put some attractive players around him as well.

Unfortunately, you turned back into turnip with your 2nd statement. Oh well, baby steps I suppose.

Like I said before, just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it untrue.

Attractive players? I thought Kobe's #1 reason to continue to play was only for a 6 th ring.
If you are his age, coming off this injury, with the Lakers current roster, you don't need to be the highest paid player in the league the next 2 seasons if that is your goal. PERIOD.

The part that I disagreed with you about IS untrue. The Lakers take care of their players in many different ways depending on the player and they don't always do it right away.

There are many former Lakers that are still around the team in one way or another and being paid by or making money as a result of their affiliation with the Lakers. These former players include: Kareem, Kurt Rambis, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Mychal Thompson, Michael Cooper, Stu Lantz and even Luke Walton. Magic was a Lakers exec for many years before he sold his interest in the team to concentrate on the Dodgers.

If Derek Fisher expressed an interest in returning to the Lakers in some capacity, it's a pretty safe bet that they'd find room for him too.

As for attractive players, as I pointed out, there is still cap space to get them. They have cap room to add a max player in 2014 or 2015 as well as solid role players. They can also add another max player or possibly 2 in 2016.

As for Kobe getting a 6th ring, Kupchak says he believes that the Lakers can get what they need to contend over the next 2 years and Kobe said when they made the offer that the Lakers told him they have a plan.

Neither you or I know what the plan may be and just because we may not know what it is doesn't mean that there isn't one.

On the other hand, just because there is a plan, doesn't mean it will work. I guess we'll know in a couple of years.

Btw, typing period in all caps at the end of a sentence doesn't make you right or prove that you know what you're talking about.

I thought this moronic thread was about HD "hating" on Dickless Rose. I have never liked Rose and believe he is the most undeserving MVP ever. So in that sense, I agree with Hammers stance on Rose.

HammerDown has started so many threads celebrating Rose's season ending injury there just has to be some history between the two.
So what was Rose's crime that Hammer has such glee at his downfall?

Hammer probably thinks he is a thug because he rarely smiles. :laugh3:

Yeah. I can see a lot to dislike. Still, I really cannot think of an athlete I want to see have a career ending injury. Of course, I am sober atm.

Where was that recipe for Bloody Mary's again?

Ppl don't like Rose because he's an introvert. If he was Deng nobody would care. But some fans expect a PG who is his team's best player, his team's best offensive player to be a type A personality. That's not who he is.

The Lakers, like everyone else, make decisions based on individual circumstances.
The Kobe decision was strictly about Kobe and has no bearing on any past, present, or future Laker situation.
You guys are acting like the Lakers gave him this cash so some potential future FA or player will think it might happen to them.

If Derek Fisher expressed an interested in returning to the Lakers in some capacity, it's a pretty safe bet that they'd find room for him too.

They sent him packing over a very minimal amount of money at a point where he wanted to stay.
He had been a huge part in winning some Laker championships.
That is what I am talking about. Where was the loyalty there?
How, if, what , or why ...they handle him in the future can never change that.

There is no plan (that doesn't include James that could possibly get them to a championship level before the end of the 2016 season.
That would much more then likely be the scenario whether Kobe took 24M or 8M, so Kobe, in reality would have been foolish to take a huge pay cut.
On the other hand, just because there is a plan, doesn't mean it will work. I guess we'll know in a couple of years.

Sure it does. If Kobes main objective was winning over cash, then he would have allowed the team to sign an extra player vs having to give him that amount of money.

There was/is no way to do both.

So do you have a better chance with Kobe plus possibly 1 high end FA, or Kobe plus 2 high end FA's?

At least one good thing with him out is Addidas will kill that stupid commercial with him acting like he would still have some huge passion for basketball without all the mansions, bling, and bitches you get being a NBA player.

About as vomit inducing stupid as Kobe's pre-r*pe Sprite commercials.
