I am not a pessimist but I think we can all agree that there are many things that have to fall right for this team to win more than a handful of games next year.

One thing SM has done a good job of... is explaining where we stand as a team and how far we still need to go.

The key point being that It will take more than one year to see maximum results for this team.

Pretty sure realistic Skins fans have leveled their hopes to reasonable expectations for this year as we begin to see the changes implemented by Scot...if for no other reason than simply to save our sanity and our livers...

Here are some pitfalls that could realistically happen.

shoup is a notorious hard liner when he talks about the skins but his talking points are mostly BS here . i think the staff is ok i think barry and gruden have learned some things . time will tell

he is right about qb play and about mccoy KC should be getting the shot

but he didnt mention injuries and that will have a huge say in all this

the DJAX thing is media stupidity

I agree the DJax stuff is a relative non issue.

And 100% with you on injuries always playing a key role in team success.

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to respect Shoups takes. He always seems to ask the hard questions and isn't shy about taking a stance without being a Skins hater or homer.

I think his talking point on coaching was pretty spot on myself.

I find it impossible to make an assessment at all outside of Jay and Kotwica at this point. And Jay was less than ok to me last year.

For me, coaching and scheme are typically more important than sheer talent on a roster. And we can't even boast of an elite talent at any position outside of possibly TW or DJax. So Its hard to underestimate how important a factor (outside of injuries) it might be in any success we have next year.

Jay looked overwhelmed and overmatched much of last year. Even his pressers had the quality of a man in over his head.

I question his commitment to running the ball. That concerns me. I question his ability to adapt his offensive philosophy to fit the strength of his players.

Kotwica...well he was better than the guy he replaced, I'll give him that but the bar was pretty low.

You are right that we will see soon enough.

And the rest of the coaching staff...well, they mostly turned over, so who knows what we have there.

Barry is an unknown but if you went strictly on his track record as a D coordinator with the Lions...nuff said.

All said, I really like what we've done in the offseason this year and I think we are on the right path.

I'm not pessimistic about that at all, nor am I, a pessimist, by nature.

I do think Shoup makes a good point on coaching here tho.
