Sure its early but I'm positive that our attention has shifted towards what we individually believe this team needs this off-season. I know most can agree about the positions that need to be addressed but I doubt we share the same opinions about how the team should approach acquiring these players through the draft or FA. I have my opinion but Im having a hard time coming up with the right scenario of events that I wish would take place. Assuming the Lions continue the BPA approach, I see tons of possibilities and I'm sure some see trouble looming.

Take a look at the early prospect rankings while considering how it will change through the months. When I do, I tend to anticipate RB, WR and CB as the positions that will emerge and be available as BPA when the Lions are up. This is all speculation of course but I'll go ahead and raise the question that is soon to come:

Do the Lions dare take an offensive player first?

I have to be honest. I really like at least four of the RBs and several WRs that could be there at 23. I really like a CB at that spot too. Its one of those areas where I think the Lions will have to take a player because they wont get him later.

Thoughts?

Im not on the wide receiver train, but definitely am for corner and running back. (Two spots Ive looked at more than any other so far.)

Of course gaurd comes into play as well.

Be interesting see if individuals are targeted to fill holes/bolster groups or if BPA happens.

Should be very easy to figure out. If Suh stays they go O - OL, RB, even WR is in play w Calvin aging.

Lose Suh and they'll (hopefully) do what it takes to replace him.

The D outshines the O this year some don't think drafting O is daring at all.

Yes, Millenhew is an idiot and our first two picks will once again contribute nothing.

As long as we either spend a 7th or an UDFA invite A-A-ron Davis I will be happy.

I would like a good guard also. Would you be cool with a RB in the first Smitty?

I want OLine. If that means moving up or down a few spots, I want to see some changes up front.

Rob,

You think if Suh leaves they will take a DT first no matter what?

My favorite target isn't a 1st rounder. (At the moment). But yeah, Id be cool with it. In my eyes, Most every Top Tier RB is a former 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounder. (11 of th top 13 was what I came up with, I think). And IMO, without vearing off topic too much, were lacking and have been lacking a Top Tier guy out of the backfield for most of these last two decades.

A lot of my opinion on "needs" could change if Suh leaves. (DT and MLB become areas to address and bolster.). As we stand though, RB is a top three position of need to me. And using that first rounder on a horse could help in the run game and passing game. (More play action, more attention from safeties, etc.)

No not no matter what but I think it's highly possible. DTs are valuable in the first round anyways.

I agree that a game changing RB is needed. I don't know how effective one would be behind that Line though. When healthy and when used properly, Bush was that game changer type back. Health and hands have taken that label away though. I'd prefer to have a Line in place before adding a position like RB that usually comes with a short shelf life.

If Suh stays, I like one of either of these guys:

I don't think Waynes will be there when we pick, but he's my favorite CB in this draft. He and Slay could be a deadly duo for years.

IMO it all hinges on Suh. For the reasons of what FAs we can or can not sign with Suh money. I do like Meows idea of Iaputi at guard.
I have not looked at what DTs are out there as FAs?

Going offense first will not bother me as long as it is RT who can play guard or play RT and swing one of Lucas or Waddle inside. So a RT... or a RB. RBs are under valued per say by league standards. With the mindset of Caldwell wanted to hammer the rock. RB with speed and power would be nice.
