Decent game, but it just another take on Valheim, Mist, 7d2d, stranded deep, etc. but this one has a particularly BAD UI.

if the UI were more user friendly, it might be worth while. The map is MASSIVE, but there really isn’t any incentive to explore it. And the ingame map function is essentially non existent. You need to use a third party map (out of game) just to have any idea where you are. And if you die? Fuck you. Start over.

Hogwarts Legacy, not even a Harry Potter fan but it is a fun game with lots to do. Very beautiful graphics, and extremely immersive world. Love all the different puzzles, and all the secrets in your school, towns and the world. I think the school might just be the most impressive building ever in a game, it is massively huge, beautiful with tons of puzzles to solve. There is fast travel, but I just rather walk around the school to take in the atmosphere. One of the best games I have ever played and one my all time favorites. I've been hooked since day 1.

Beat Octopath Traveler 2. It took about 80 hours so I guess I took my time. Its a classic Japanese RPG a bit like the ones from the SNES/PS1 days but its also structured a bit like a modern open world game with an overworld map and recommended levels for story missions. When looking at the overworld map, you can actually see areas to explore and as you're walking through the map you'll often see treasure before you figure out how to get there. The towns are full of NPCs that have dialogue, items to steal, and can be recruited into your party. Whichever character you pick as your main character will stay in the party for most of the game and as such will likely be a bit overpowered. If you dont rush through the game then the game is a bit on the easy side but its heavy emphasis on story means that it isnt really an issue.

I will say that it was refreshing to see a game that gives heroes a reason for revenge but the characters actually stay heroic for the most part. This is no Breaking Bad or the Last of Us despite many characters being done pretty dirty. I will say that I found the final boss to be a bit of a difficulty spike because its a multiphase boss that introduces a couple of mechanics that can really wreck you if you weren't prepared for them. It took me five tries to beat it but I suspect if you look the fight up online before hand it'll only take one or two.

As a whole, I'd say I enjoyed this more than other games in the genre. I liked it more than Dragon Quest XI, Chained Echoes, Tales of Bersaria, Ni No Kuni, and Persona 5. I think those are the only ones I've played in the past decade or so.

I don't think it'll convert you if you're not a fan of the old Final Fantasy games, though.

I'm playing Signalis. Its like a ps1 era game except the puzzles are more realistic and the story more far fetched. I'm really enjoying it but I also think that it would be notably more popular if it was entirely in first person.

I was cleaning out some boxes and came across my PC games Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and World in Conflict. Going to install both and have a play through.

I'm finally trying the New Saint's Row. Not as good as the original series, but I do like the origin of The Saints in this one more.

I recently stumbled across a blast from the past.
LodeRunner (1983) was the first PC game I ever owned, and LodeRunner the Legend Returns (1995) was one of my favorites, until the PC it was on couldn't run anything else.

Someone has rebuilt the "Legend Returns" in an easy to install/use PC version. ("Mad Monk's Revenge" is just "Legend Returns" with bug fixes)
There are no emulators or other nonsense - just one download for the game and a separate one for the sound/music.

Playing Street Fighter 6. The big mechanic here is Drive Rush. It can allow you to get close easy, maybe use it defensively to blow through a timed opponents attack, or use it to land a big combo in the corner. Corner = death. There is a parry but it uses meter so its not just a game about parrying like Street Fighter 3. Overall vibe feels like it takes the best from 3, 4 and 5.

The world tour mode is something else. Its a bit like Yakuza but it takes itself even less seriously. Like a goofy, city-wide Fight Club. I'm always a fan of total customization in outfits, character, and move list so...yeah...this mode is cool. I think there is enough to do here to keep people happy if they dont feel like going online and getting completely destroyed.

Alan Wake 2, I see why it won game of the year awards. Well put together game, better original Alan Wake. It has about 50 hours of content, so it's worth a play at a discounted price.

Mixing it up right now.

2nd playthrough of Jedi Survivor. Also playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and playing Revenant 2 co-op with a friend when we get together.

Is survivor worth it? Seeing as you are doing a 2nd play so early after it’s release kinda answers my question, I guess.

I am doing a FO4 replay atm. Decent game, but the story for this installment is kinda meh…

Yeah, it's worth the 2nd playthrough on the hardest difficulty. With a modifier to mix up enemies in encounters, so it isn't quite the same.

Still not as difficult as Dark Souls though.

I get the feeling that Dragon's Dogma 2 will be a bit rough around the edges for a few weeks. That said, I remember playing the original back in 2012 and it kinda bombed. I think with how gaming has changed it could end up being the most popular game of the year if it picks up all of the Monster Hunter players and Elden Ring players.
