Let's not get carried away. CJ was in late in the game during mop-up time, likely playing against W. Michingan 2nd and 3rd teamers. Even their first teamers were terrible, no way to draw any conclusions there other than CJ looks like a solid backup.
I agree with Clem here. Sure looks like Iowa has a solid #2 QB. And it looks like the play book for him looks different from Rudock's in terms of the read option. That long throw to Powell was a money shot!
I like the fact that he adds another dimension to the offense...I'm not stupid and think that Ferentz has a bit more knowledge of football talent than me but I was impressed with his poise
Jake showed some wheels today too, although they weren't calling read options for him much at all. I think if it weren't for that early whistle, CJ would have set an all time football (NCAA and NFL) record for yards gained on a QB sneak. Had to have gained 30 yards on that play.
The more I see of Rudock, the more I like what I see. Especially for a kid playing in his first few D1 games. Has a nice arm and for the first time in a while we have a QB who doesn't lob every pass in (Stanzi) or fire them at guys with every throw (Jake C, JVB). Just has a nice pace about his throws. Plus, seems to know when to tuck the ball in and run and even has good speed.
3-1 going into Big Ten play, I'll take it. Really anxious to see how Iowa stacks up against a lot of of these Big Ten teams.
I thought the game at Minnesota would be one of the games that Iowa would win in conference. Minnesota likes to run the ball and played with their backup QB today. After seeing Iowa improve, I'm feeling better about this game. Can't wait for next Saturday.
