Gotta have 'em first

I think marv sacked up a little bit more last season. In one of the biggest games he was too aggressive. His game management v. the Steelers was probably the most ridiculous I've ever seen in what was for all practical purposes a playoff game. A 4th and 22 against the leagues best defense? A 54 yard fg in a place where kicks go to die? Both had basically zero chance of succeeding and were in huge spots. Luckily Tomlin also made some boneheaded decisions. I know someone will point out that we won that game, but we won in spite of Marv's atrocious management. Not because of it. he did everything he could to lose that game. But I liked that he was overall more aggressive on 4th downs. I thought on the whole he improved with game management. My issue with him is that he seems to not be able to gameplan to exploit his opponent and make adjustments. Tactically, he seems to be lacking. I wonder if he's a Norv turner (great coordinator...meandering HC)

Marv's a lousy in game coach, as we all know. However, it would seem to me his off the field decision making and his change in drafting methods have improved the team. Now we are drafting for character, instead of just drafting one character after another. If we could only convince him to let the coordinators run the game on the field, we might have something.

I think Dalton will be just fine, and regarding Marv, if not for him, this roster is not as stacked as it is. So it can be said, without Marv, we would not be as good as we already are.

Ok, fine. But now that we are as talented as we are, let's switch Marvin out for someone who can actually do something with all the talent on the roster.

Thanks Marv! Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Except Brown will never fire Marvin. He had trouble firing Shula, Coslet and others and they lost, and lost, and lost.

Marvin has a life-time contract here with his Playoff apperances. If he wins an actual playoff game, he may be written into Brown's will as part owner....

Yes, that is the reality of it. But to defend Marvin and/or give him a mulligan because of the talent that has come on under his watch is ridiculous and what I was responding to.

There is no doubt Marvin lewis needs to improve in some areas, and I think over the past few years his entire game has improved (with the exception of that Pittburgh game - that was the worst coached football game on both sides of the ball I have ever seen, Marvin and Tomlin should be ashamed of themselves after that game.

He has helped bring in more advanced scouts, he brought a really good head scout in Tobin, the coorinators are really good, the position coaches seemed to have improved, the talent on the team has improved, the depth, the consistancy of the team has improved, the drive, hunger, character, etc.

There is no way to ensure that all stays in place if Marvin were to be replaced. Playoffs 3 of last 4 years including a division title, and while I am not happy not winning a playoff game, you can see the improvement of this team across the board. Right now, I am willing to give Marvin more of a pass than I would have 5 years ago.
