Oh what sheer, unadulterated pleasure it is to throw "dynasty" bullshit around with my arrogant Giants fans buddies now! What a fabulous day to just gaze at the standings.
My brother has bled orange & black since the first game we saw at the Colisium in 1960 between the Dodgers and Giants. Why I went Dodgers and he went Giants has always puzzled:confused2: me but he isn't returning my emails at the moment. Personally don't care to get a response until after the season's playoffs are done, means the turds from the north have sunk into the bay
This looks like a good place to put this "did you know" item. I for one had no idea of this, and I thought I was pretty well up on Dodger history.
It was on this date back in 1939 that the Dodgers acquire infielder Pee Wee Reese from the Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later (Red Evans), three minor leaguers and $35,000. The 21-year old farmhand, a future Hall of Famer, will become a crowd favorite helping Brooklyn to win seven pennants during his 16 seasons with the team.
Looks like this is a good place to drop this item.
It was on this date back in 1989 that, in the 11th frame of an eventual 22-inning 1-0 loss, the Expos' Youppi! becomes the first mascot to be thrown out of a game when Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda complains to the umpires about the hairy orange giant's behavior at Olympic Stadium. The L.A. skipper takes exception to the loud noise caused by the hairy creature's running leap onto the visitors' dugout before sneaking back into a front row seat.
And, in the same game, the second-longest shutout in big league history ends when Rick Dempsey hits a home run in the top of the 22nd inning giving the Dodgers an eventual 1-0 victory over the Expos at Olympic Stadium. The Astros blanked the Mets for 24 frames en route to a 1-0 win at the Astrodome in 1968.
