Why? Many reasons. If you keep him after this year then you have to keep him the following year for the new arena. You can't hang a new arena out there and let a coach recruit for the new arena and then fire him before it opens. He said after the Michigan game that the team is giving him 100% and this isn't their fault. Well then who's fault is it that they have score less than 50 in what feels like half their games? I commend him for talking the blame off the players, that is what a real head coach would do and what another head coach in Lincoln could learn from but then it is your fault. That comment in my mind sealed his fate. Who is the best player Doc has brought in in 6 years? Whom ever it is, they suck. Someone said timing is key in firings. With the new arena in 2 years and already giving him 6 years, the time is now.

No, the Ted Silva hire made me tingle the most. I would have taken him as head coach. The Bolt hire is ok. I wouldnt have completely liked it but would have accepted it more if Bolt was the head coach. Jeff Christy is the other one I love. He was a coach behind the plate when he was a player. He will help a ton!!!! Erstad has assembled a great assistant coaching staff to mask his inexperience.

And like someone earlier said, Nebraska will not win the Big 10 this year but will finish in the top half.

This isn't likely, but I wouldn't be shocked considering Doc and Osborne's relationship that they reach a lower settlement.
