Only because we make it an afterthought. As bad as we were on Sunday the game was still within reach because the D was holding St. Louis to field goals and not touchdowns.

If we abandon the run completely in the 3rd quarter and we're only down 6 points that's a sign we don't want to run the ball not we don't have solmeone competent enough to do it.

And frankly I'm tired of drafting RB's as high as we do when people like Anderson and Thompson are killing it and they didn't get drafted. We drafted Moreno in the 1st round and he only started acting like it last year, now we have Hillman who we drafted in the 2nd round and Ball who we drafted in the 2nd round. We don't need anymore high picked RB's I don't care how good they are.

Those are good points. The offensive line has not been good enough to open any holes. We have plenty of good higher round picks in RB's. Cincinnati has two 2nd round RB's in Giovanni Bernard and Jeremy Hill, both of which are better than Denvers RB's in my opinion, but the difference is, Cincinnati is able to open some running lanes with their OL. Granted, they are a much better pass blocking line than run blocking line, but still much better than Denver.

We need too much to address all of our OL issues in the draft next year. I think we need to find a couple good OL in FA that are not going to eat up our entire cap and then polish the line off through the draft.

10 attempts against St. Louis. 1 was Manning scrambling. Ball was averaging 3 yards a carry. The most egregious stat there is 9 freaking attempts. I would take at least a 40/20 pass-run approach.

Teams are catching on to our screens that used to count for a run game. I know the line is struggling but we need to at least act like the run will happen. Remember with Orton a few years ago our run game was awful but we had one of the best play-action games.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be running more. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous fans can be with their criticisms. How many times have people complained about the offense being too conservative? It happens constantly.

The bottom line is the Broncos aren't calling more runs because runs aren't working, and they aren't working because the line isn't opening up any holes.

Wow. I just got on to get your thoughts on something I`ve recently been thinking about regarding running game/O-line and last 3 posts are perfect. I started thinking about the O-line and realized that maybe there`s more to why it`s not working out so well in the run game. We all know ( it`s pretty much a given) that O- linemen prefer to run block compared to pass protect. Especially the interior guys. The tackles maybe not to same degree esp the blind side tackle that has a much bigger responsibility in protecting the qb. Can you imagine for these guys....your in the huddle, a run is called off tackle, you gear up,know your assignment then Manning audibles to a pass. No, wait! Its now a screen play ( new blocking assignment), Ok, ready!, No! Shit now it`s back to pass protect!!!. I`am actually starting to feel for those guys and understand how difficlt it must be for them ( rbs too because their protection/ mindset has to change in a milisecond also) to have Manning audibleing like crazy every single play. It has to not only be very frustrating but also very hard to remember "what the hell is my assaignment again?". I`am seeing things dif and really feel that would be extremely problamatic trying to focus and concentrate on your responsibilities running the ball AND pass protect. I believe if the coaches and Manning simplified things a tad and stuck more with the call, I think we`d would see alot more consistancy in the running game if that were to happen. Your thoughts Gents are much appreciated and respected.

Hillman had a good stretch where he was running the ball well. They can run the ball and there are some holes there but they chose not to run. Passing every down isn't working wither. 7 points is proof of that. The o line would be much better if the defense didn't know it was a pass every down. Which means no PA pass. C.J. Anderson averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Ronnie Hillman averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Thompson 4.0 yards per carry. Those are the guys that have done most of the running this year and those yards per carry are pretty good. They chose not to run and it isn't because it isn't working. They dont need to run the ball great but they do need to show they are willing to do it. That's the problem. Numbers don't lie. Just saying.

As for Ball's low yards per carry its because he just isn't that good or hasn't been completely healthy. I think its a little bit of both. Take his low yards per carry out and Denver's rushing game isn't that bad on yards per carry with the main guys I listed above. Just saying.

The team averages 3.7 yards per rushing attempt, which ranks 25th in the league. Seems like a lot of runs are stuffed in the backfield. I'm all for running the ball more, but we also need to be more effective when we do so.

Take Ball's carries out and the team is running the ball pretty well when they chose to do so. No o line can hold up when the other team knows you are passing every down. Denver can run the ball but they chose not to. It doesn't have to be great but its a must to try to get big plays from PA passing. Baoll is the only RB on the team with a sub par yards per carry rushing.
