Well, that's a silly question. It doesn't make any sense because you'd have to compare team production with Ryan (minus pieces traded, plus replacements) against team production with Doan and everyone not traded. You can't just say Ryan vs. Doan plus everyone we kept...lol

We'll also be in a huge bidding war for Doan and would likely end up overpaying (in money and years) for a guy that will soon turn 36.[/QUOTE

Why we wouldnt be in a bidding war of players to be traded for Ryan like no other team wants him.

Read Voaracek draft picks > Ryan

Doan 1 or 2 year stop gap if he wants more years we dont sign him

I wouldn't deal Voracek unless he's asking for way too much. I don't know why you're including him. Now I'd deal Read, a prospect and picks. Ryan would be a nice improvement over that package.

What players would you think they would want for Ryan??? Read a prospect and picks wouldnt be enough to get ryan when the rangers have a lot of young talent and want him badly.

They probably want Schenn or Couturier like everyone else does, but I just don't see that happening. However, when you consider that guys like Schenn and Read may get third line minutes anyway, Ryan will be an improvement over them on the top line.

Even if you packaged Schenn and Read plus a pick, it may arguably still be beneficial to the team for the next several years.

your original point was trading Ryan before we go for Doan now your saying we arent getting Ryan so were back to my post about trying to sign Doan.

No, the question was who would help us more. Seeing as Ryan is 10 years younger, if he were to ever be traded to us AND re-sign, over the lifetime of his career he'd be potentially a hell of a lot more valuable to our team than 3-4 years of Doan, even after giving up a couple players and a pick to get him.

I didn't say trade for Ryan before trying to sign Doan...lol There are plenty of options on the table. By all means, explore them all. Odds are Doan doesn't even sign with us. He'll either stay with Phoenix or go to someone that will pay him a generous amount across four years (NYR).

We have at leaset $7m still under the cap and will get another $5m for Pronger. Problem is that I dont really see anyone else out there worth getting. Doan will get more than he should and Semin really does not fit on the Flyers. We still need a top 6 wing and I don't see one out there!

i'd have no probably signing semin for a year.. i think this is a little bit of a transition year for the flyers, so they should hang on to what they have and keep the space that they have going in to next summer.. which leaves signing guys to 1 year contracts.. sign semin for 6 mil, but just this season.. the worst thing that could happen is he destroys the room for a year where the flyers weren't looking at winning the cup anyway, but planning for the future.. best case, he shreds the NHL playing with giroux and hartnell, forming the best line in hockey, setting the flyers up to compete for the cup, they have room to add a piece or two at the trade deadline, and boom.

if it doesn't work out, you have 20+ mil to spend on free agents like weber, enstrom, getzlaf, perry, and a whole slew of others next summer

on weber, interesting topic being discussed on the main board.. if someone were to offer a 1 year offer-sheet to weber it would force poile to decide between giving him up for the picks (likely 2 firsts a 2nd and a 3rd, possibly the next tier which i think is four 1sts) or matching the offer sheet and not being able to trade him.. if you match an offer sheet, you can't trade the player for the next year, thus forcing weber to go all the way to UFA and then the preds lose him for nothing

if poile let weber go for the compensation, the team that signs him would be able to renegotiate a long term deal the second the offer sheet was accepted.

Well, if it were a couple first rounders, a second and a third, I'd make the offer to Weber. If it were four firsts, I don't think I could bring myself to do it...lol

ya.. that'd be risky, especially if you couldn't sign him afterwards.. the barrier is 7.8 mil.. so anything 7.8 or less will be 2 firsts, a 2nd, and a 3rd.. which is absolutely worth it.. anything over and you gotta think twice IMO..

would weber take a 7.8 mil for 1 year offer to get off the preds? would he take that and go UFA anyway next summer? would poile match anyone and hope that over the course of this season he could convince weber to stay, at the risk of not being able to trade him or his rights before July 1st, 2013?

one would think if he accepted an offer sheet from a team though he'd be willing to sign long term with them

that would certainly be an interesting story...

After everything that's been said here, I don't necessarily think we will have a weaker team this coming season...quite the contrary actually. With another year of experience, I think there's going to be improvement across the board with our younger players (Couturier, Read, Schenn, Voracek, Simmonds, Rinaldo etc.) while the additions of L. Schenn and Gervais bulk up the defensive depth and there's probably a forward yet to be named that we will acquire.

I heard that as well. I also heard that Homer and Poile are close so he wouldn't do that to him without warning him first. I'd be interested in seeing how this plays out.

I think Weber would take $7.8 million to leave and I also think he would re-sign, especially if it were our team that made the offer. I also feel like Poile wouldn't match it, because it is a nice stack of picks and if he does match it, he could completely fuck himself out of everything just for one more year of Weber...lol

ya i dont see homer doing it either.. him and poile seem to be very close, and honestly, without poile i dont think homer would have a job anymore.. i think homer would offer him a trade rather than do that

other teams though.. i could see detroit doing this.. they're a classy organization so maybe not, but that would be a very shrewd decision that could really help their franchise (which needs a lot of help defensively)

Fucking love this Fedotenko signing.

Wellwood-Talbot-Fedotenko

That is like the perfect 4th line.

I have a feeling he might wind up on the third line.

My lines as of now:

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek

Schenn-Briere-Simmonds

Read-Couturier-Fedotenko

Rinaldo-Talbot-Wellwood/Sestito

Damn, you're good. :)

obviously.

great signing though i think

My lines as of now:

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek

Schenn-Briere-Simmonds

Read-Couturier-Fedotenko

Rinaldo-Talbot-Wellwood/Sestito

either way, we should have 2 fairly sound energy/checking lines this year, rather than 3.5 scoring lines haha.. if that does end up being the 3rd line (i think talbot/feds will be back and forth), that's quite the 3rd line in terms of 2 way play.. could be very dangerous offensively, but should be even more stout defensively

I am pulling for Rinaldo and Sestito to kinda not ne on our healthy team this year. Just dont find them worth it at this point, and would love to pursue 1 final FA to fill a wing.

ALso, imagine Couturier and Fedotenko on the PK. I like.

With Ryan we would have to give up a couple of good young players and with Doan we dont so i dont see how Ryan could help us more

26 vs 36, a 4 time 30 g scorer vs a 20g scorer, a non 35+ contract vs a 35+ contract(that he wants to be 4 years) & Doan prob want the kind of $ Ryan is making. I'd rather give up some assets then have another Pronger contract in waiting.

I dont like Doan for 4 years if we have to do that i would rather not sign him and save money for next year. Bobby Ryan only had 57 points last year and i would think that our current players would cover that easily.

Ryan also fell out of the good graces of management for some unkown reaosn and play 15-20 games on the 4th line.

Also it would be Vorachek/Read, Gusty/Bourdon & a 1st maybe a 2nd nothing more and if they want more we walk away. Remember that just because a team wants certain players doens't mean we're going to give them up.
