flyers have a whole slew of 3rd pairing guys.. i'd be ok if MAB, gust, lilja, gervais, manning, syvret, or even walker, were the 6th defensemen, and at a stretch id be ok with MAB or gust being the 5th dman..

problem is, any of those guys in the top 4 is terrifying..

if everything stays the way it is, the flyers are going to be LOADED with cap space next year.. they have 10 mil now, timonen, hartnell, and shelley are all up next year which is another 11 mil.. IF weber were to make it to UFA, the flyers could offer him whatever they wanted.. they could also go after corey perry to replace hartnell, AND enstrom.. 9 to weber, 7 to enstrom, and 5 + any cap increase, for perry.. if these guys make it to free agency, the flyers could look like this next year

perry.giroux.schenn
voracek.briere.simmonds
read.couturier.talbot
wellwood.?cousins/laughton?.rinaldo

weber.enstrom
coburn.grossmann
meszaros.schenn

bryz
backup

and that team would win a cup, i gaurantee it.

problem is, i dont see how weber gets to free agency.. the preds are going to realize they cant sign him, and they're going to trade him.. and the team that trades for him is going to sign him before he hits UFA.. so if the flyers want to go that route, they'd likely have to give up schenn or couturier, simmonds or voracek, MAB or gust, and a 1st most likely.. then things get a little dicey, especially if he wants to go UFA anyway.

other problem obviously is all 3 of those players will have their pick of where they play.. just cause the flyers want them, doesn't mean they'll sign

you also gotta think detroit would sell the moon and 3 planets to get weber at this point.. they NEED dmen, and were just spurned by suter

To get Weber would be great but a couple of things. Who they would want from our roster and how much he would want to sign for. They way the salaries went this year for defensemen he may want 11 million per for 10 years. He is definatley twice as good as carle who just got 5.5 so it really depends on what circumstances are around the Preds timeline of a trade.

i answered those things! at least to the best of my ability

i think weber could be had for 9mil per.. and i think if the flyers were to trade for him it would take 1 from each category

A: couturier, schenn
B: voracek, simmonds
C: bourdon, gustafsson
D: 1st round pick

for those who think it would take more, i doubt it would take more than it took to get pronger (sbisa, lupul, two 1sts) for two reasons.. 1. pronger already had a contract signed for the next 2 seasons.. and 2. pronger had led 2 different teams to a cup.. yes weber is better, and in his prime, then pronger was when we got him, but the other reasons outweigh that IMO

ideally though, he'd make it to free agency and pick the best franchise in all of sports

They are weaker as of now, but I don't really see what could have been done differently to this point. 5.5 cap hit for Carle? No way. 4.5 for Jagr. No way. They put out offers for the top 2 guys, but unfortunately Parise isn't from Philly and Suter's girlfriend isn't either. I can't think of too many who would be happy to see Homer gut the youth for Nash, or Ryan.
The only signing I have seen so far that I wouldn't have minded was Steve Sullivan at a 1.25 cap hit. That wouldn't have been bad. But it is a crappy FA year, and one in which certain teams are going crazy.

Yes you answered those things but your answers are what you think the Preds will want and what salary you think Weber will command. I'm saying if Weber is a free agant he will command more than 9 and it depends on what the preds need at the time they are ready to trade him if they do so as i said it depends on the circumstances the Preds have at the time of either trade or free agancy

ya i mean it depends on the circumstances, but the preds pretty much need everything other than a goalie.. that's why i say that would be a nice offer for them.. if you think the cap hit will be 2 mil more than crosby makes, then so be it.. i dont think he'll command that much..

i still think its worth it to wait, rather than do something rash like trading for ryan (if they ask for too much, i'd be ok with voracek, gust, and a 1st, no more).. or trading for nash

Basically, We need to replace Jvr's 24 points and Jagr's 54. Now not to knock on JVR, but he can be replaced by a depth guy via FA. Looking at cap geek, I like Fedotenko, Arnott, and Langenbruner.

Another guy available is Andrei Kostitsyn. He may a bit too much for a depth guy, but I would pay him.

And Jagr's points. That is where the wheeling and dealing comes in. Yes we can trade for Ryan. Let's keep our depth instead. So there is Doan. I'd like him. So do 29 other teams. And finally, Semin. I am screaming for some Semin. This an is an elite winger, who is sure as he'll worth any Zherdev-esque risk. You think Giroux played well with Jagr's decrepit 40 year old skill, Semin would get you pregnant.

signing a forward like doan at what he's apparently asking for (4 years) is a risk that jeopardizes building a dynasty next summer too.. 35+ contracts are just so risky.. if he doesn't play out the contract teams that consistently go to the cap ceiling (like the flyers) would be screwed

when i read this i was thinking..

..this, if you're going to go risky with an alcoholic like AK, might as well pony up the extra couple mil and go for semin.. in either case though, i'd only go 1 year.. i'd pay semin 6 mil for 1 year though.. why the hell not at this point? they have 10 mil to work with, plus pronger's LTIR for in season stuff.. if you dont spend all your cap money this year, it goes to waste.. just dont sign him longer than this year, we need the money for next summer

lol

Stupid question here. I thought Semin was under a contract w/ the Caps? Is a a UFA? If so, I'd make him an offer. We need somebody to replace some numbers lost from Jagr and JVR.

nope he's UFA, and either he's said, or the caps have said, that they wont be teaming up again next year

not a lot of action on him so far though cause he's such a head case

He's Russian therefore he is on Bryzy's headcase level. Nothing new for us. Sign the commy bastard. Maybe he'll come down on price since there are not a lot of takers thus far?

He is a cancer though. If he acts like a punk then Lavy will treat him the exact same way he treated Zherdev (as he should). The only way I'd possible take him is if it was for one year and for dirt cheap. He's a punk (who also doesn't play D) and I don't like him.

i feel the same way, but i dont mind if he's expensive as long as its one year.. at the rate the flyers are going it's not like they're going to spend it elsewhere haha

well the CBA is up.. and fehr is running the NHLPA now (guy that locked out baseball).. so there's that pointing to a lockout

but the owners have nothing to stand on in my eyes.. record revenue, the players took all the pain of the 1st lockout, small market teams like the wild are shelling out 200 mil in 1 day, crosby just signed a 100+ mil contract himself, jordan staal, a 3rd line center for most of his career, signed a 10 year deal worth 60 mil (another small market team).. they can argue all they want that they need more money, but lets be honest, they dont. EVERYTHING says they dont.

they need to figure out a solution for the coyotes (aka, let them die) and a couple other teams are struggling financially so they need to figure out what to do with them.. aside from that it should be all roses
