Buckle up!!
Also, is Methot exposed just based on Ottawa not having enough exposed guys? I don't think I'd mind that one bit.
Pretty much a sure thing that Ottawa goes with the 7-3-1 format.
1. Karlsson is a lock
2. Phaneuf has to be protected unless asked to waive; some rumours they might go down that road but I'd say unlikely that they offend one of their top 4 guys AND lose another D.
3. Everyone seems to be think Ceci will be protected based on draft/pedigree and age.
4. Methot: maybe not taken depending on what LV is getting elsewhere
5. Wideman: would actually be good (for LV) if they're looking to save money. He's been improving all year and PMD are hard to come by. He's also adjusted at every level and become a REALLY good player. I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy top out as a Rafalski/Boyle (lite) type of player as he hits his late 20s.
6. Boro: LOL
7. Claesson: likely not on LV's radar but he's been just fine.
So it comes down to whether you protect the young, struggling, but cheaper Ceci or, the older, better right now but with some injury concerns, more expensive Methot.
It's a tough call and they're likely to lose a pretty good player.
If it was me I'd look to trade Ceci in a package for an elite player and then try to sign someone like Michael Stone to replace him after the expansion draft.
