I think he showed this season he has alot of potential as an offensive threat. Its another benning trade of a younger player for a player a couple years older who may have hit his ceiling

Forsling/shinkaruk and now mccann

Can't speak for the shinkaruk, not sure he was going to be a huge player but what we got back was less than stellar for potential. McCann and a 2nd for this is worth the risk, yeah it can blow up, but it can also for Florida. Wilkie Mitchell thinks Florida got robbed for what that's worth

When do they announce that anyways? If they have privately and just not announced it yet and its this year ill step back from the edge

I have heard that they have until 2018 to give it up.

2018, they might actually have a good season.

Definitely not this year. Too good a pick. 34th overall. Only one behind Florida (From Vancouver)

there wasn't room for McCann, so I can see him out the door, (and he kind of fell of a cliff after a hot start)
we need to strengthen our D so he makes sense. Good age for our new core as well.

I think we got out muscled on the draft picks though.

Gillis tried to get Gubranson out of Florida for both Hodgson and then for Luongo so I guess Benning one upped him lol

idk what to make on Gudbranson ... I rated him (as everyone did) when he first came into the league but he now seems to be what he is ... has he hit a plateau in his development? :noidea: stats community doesnt like the player all that much ... is he the second coming of Bryan Allen?

Nah - More like Jared Cowen and Luca Sbisa :behindsofa:

Stay at home defender Erik Gudbranson's shots against impact comparable to Jared Cowen and Nate Guenin. He's not who you think he is.

And that's his supposed strength. His EV scoring rates are Adam McQuaid and Luca Sbisa. This is just lunacy.

On the other hand, Bill Watters on TSN1040 radio called this trade a massive win for Vancouver, so :noidea:

Luke Schenn was the comp that I was thinking of.

I'm assuming that the confusion is regarding whether Watters is the biggest idiot on the radio or just another big idiot on the radio.

He's on the list of GMs I'd call this summer. Sweeney too. Seems like both feel pressure to make moves and leverage would be there. Not really sure what moves I'd make, but those guys just seem vulnerable.

Yeah, I'm not gonna pretend to be a big hockey fan. But even i know Sweeney had a rough year.

Trading premium draft picks for non-premium rentals is like...the cardinal sin of professional sports trade deadline moves.

Jared Cowen is pretty much who I think of. I think Gudbranson has a better work ethic so I can see him improving a little but this move is soooo 2002.

I will say this, though, at least Benning isn't shy about shaking things up which is a lot more than you can say about the Oilers brain trust.

Nucks add a big body defender for a conference filled with big bodies.

Since when is a NHL 2nd round pick is a "premium" asset ? Outside of Hockeyfuture boards.

The Panthers make it back to the playoffs and then trade for a prospect and picks.

I can see why Williams is WTFing the trade

Elliotte Friedman said in my link above that the Panthers were also looking to shed some salary as they have a number of young guys that they need to re-sign (including Ekblad). Not sure how much Gudbranson might get in his next contract, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 4.5 to 5 million per season range.
