SoCal, I doubt that the Atlanta fans are calling for a new QB today. KC played better than Ryan yesterday.

The fact that Ryan along with a handful of other players/coaches at the time pretty much revived pro football in Atlanta after the Vick/dog-fighting debacle. Ryan's an 8 year starter, ROY winner and 3 time pro bowler. Who's led the Falcons to 71 win in 7 1/3 seasons as the Falcons starting QB and to the playoffs 4 times has nothing to do with Falcon fans not calling for a new QB after yesterday's game. Its all about Kirk Cousins, who's what? 3-11 as a starter and just threw the game losing pick 6 in OT. Having a better game than Ryan did yesterday.

Talk about Redskins fans not being savvy indeed.

Cmon - you know damn well that there is a huge difference in comparing the two QBs. Ryan is an established QB who has had success in the NFL & nobody would question him as being the Falcons starter for the foreseeable future. Cousins is a completely different matter & anyone who tells you he is definitely the Redskins starting QB for the next 3-4 years is either lying or doesn't know football. Again - I want him to tear it up every single game (as I would for any Redskins QB). Also - read my last paragraph. I am stating that asking for Cousins to be benched is the wrong thing at this time & hopefully Redskins fans look at this objectively today when they have had a chance to calm down.

I don't believe that you are completely correct with your second paragraph. I truly believe that most NFL fans (of all teams) fall into this category. Just because say the Pats are successful does not mean that their fans are so much more football savvy (actually quite the opposite in most cases).

I have stated numerous times on this site that this is a rebuilding year & there will be mistakes and growing pains many times this season including at the QB position. Some fans don't agree & that is their right. My Monday position (after calming down & getting out of Atlanta) is that we should wait till the entire season is played to determine if Cousins will be part of future plans for the Redskins.

As for Falcons running game - a major reason for that is Freeman & their line - you can't discount that. The good news is that that Redskins won't face a RB even close to him for the remainder of the season. Remember - the Redskins rushing defense was praised highly prior to this game. A team doesn't just magically become horrible after one game. You should take your own advice regarding instant gratification in regards to that situation (said in a good manner - not trying to attack you). Here's to a good comeback against the Jets.

Socal, let me start off by saying, and I should have been clearer, I don't consider you one of those unsavvy fans. In fact, your posts are usually the voice of reason. Im sorry if it came out that way.

I am not comparing KC to Ryan. Im comparing our fan base to other fan bases. This board is indicative of it. We have posters here, and I wont name names, but we all know who they are, that after every loss, they want to find the one person to place blame and ride them out. One week it could be the QB, one week its the coaches. They don't understand that building a program takes time and a crap load of trial and errors. Then, as shark has pointed out, there are a subset of our base that is still butt hurt over the failure of RG3 and want nothing more than to see KC also fail so Gruden can get fired. They believe that RG3 got a raw deal and Gruden has a personal vendetta against RG3. That is so ludicrous that it makes me laugh.

As for KC, If people really knew what they were talking about and understood the subtleties of evolving into an NFL QB, they would recognize that KC is improving. Just compare his presence in the pocket to last year. He is pre-reading the defenses and audibling out as well as changing protections. Does he get it right every time? No. But he gets it right most of the time. Then watch what he does as the pocket collapses. he slides and delivers. Many times this is to his safety valve, but that is what he is supposed to be doing. Im not sure how many sacks KC has taken this year, but its not many. And much of that is due to his ability to sense pressure and get rid of the ball. He is miles ahead of where he was just a year ago. Now most just look at the stat line. They see 2 INTs. They see 60% completion rate. All they see is the negative. These are the same people that scream we need a franchise QB. Well, guess what. They are hard to come by. There are maybe 6 or 8 in the league right now. The question is can KC continue to evolve. I have no idea. But I do know that there is no one on the waiver wire, or on this team, or that will be available in FA or the draft next year that will immediately step in and be better.

So our fan base has turned into the alter ego of Cerrito/Snyder. No patience, thinks we should fire everyone now and can't understand why we are in constant rebuilding more.

you guys sound that this season is just a learning season. jy19 Gruden is not letting KC taking chances down the field. Yes KC was a having a bad game but to put the Falcons away on a 3rd and goal at the 6th he calls for a WR screen pass that has no chance of scoring. Don't like it at all. That shows no confidence in KC at all. We had this team on the ropes. Gruden plays it safe and relies on an overworked defense to try to win the game for him. Bad move. Very tough loss to take. We had them.

I still cannot stomach this loss. What's worse was I was at the Georgia Dome to see this. It was an exciting game, especially late. On that field goal, which was made to tie the game, I never even looked. I was praying with another fellow Skins fan. Lol Back to the game. I disagreed with a lot of the play calls on this game. First, we continued to have Alfred Morris run the same type of plays, which the Falcons were easily stopping. That screen pass on 3rd and goal that you mentioned was a horrible, horrible play call. I, too, believe Jay Gruden has no confidence in KC, which is why he was calling conservative plays. This is unbelievable to me, especially since this is virtually the same Falcons secondary that gave up 381 yards and 3TDs to KC in 2013, which I attended that game, as well.

Throwing deep, keeps teams honest. The one play, where he goes deep to Ross, it wasn't completed, but drew a huge pass-interference call taking us to the goaline and ultimately leading to a Matt Jones TD. Now, to the infamous throw for the pick-six. The play breaks my heart because we were driving. I believe KC rushed that throw. Not to mention, he threw off of his back foot, which made the throw off target. In fact, he was off target for most of the game, except during his TD drive in the 1st Qtr. Under duress, either he should've stepped up in the pocket to avoid the rush, so he can plant and throw or take the damn sack. KC has got to make better decisions. Oh! By the way, he faces a good Jets defense and a secondary, led by Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.

Dude - cmon. I was also at the game yesterday, and I have already gotten over the loss & am looking forward to next week. Make no mistake - it was tough at the time being surrounded by thousands of cheering fans yelling for their team & somewhat badmouthing the Redskins. To their credit Falcons fans were pretty nice & this was much nicer than say if the game was played in Philly.

Time to get real - this was a game they were supposed to lose & this season was also supposed to be a disaster. All that they can do now is play the remaining games and try to learn from their mistakes. Yep - they are playing a very good Jets defense. However - unlike Atlanta - the Jets don't have anywhere near the talent as the Falcons on offense & the Redskins defense should be highly motivated to prove something. It will be up to the Redskins offense to prove that they can again play well & avoid the critical mistakes.

What exactly were you expecting this season? I was not expecting much - just improvement especially from some of the younger players. I believe that we certainly have seen that to date & have seen a different attitude then in the past. I have very high hopes for the future of this team even if they fall short this season.

j_y,

Fair enough. I was not disputing that many Redskins fans are impatient & perhaps uniformed. I was just clarifying that this is true for fans of most/all NFL teams. I agree with you about Cousins & my take is that people need to evaluate him at the end of this season to determine if he should continue to be part of their plans. IMO - it is a toss up right now.

I also don't believe that you are ever going to appease the diehard RG3 fans & BTW there are several people of that mindset who aren't Redskins fans. I ran into several Falcons fans yesterday who think like this & were adamant that the Redskins problems were strictly due to Cousins (they said this before the game).

There are still 11 games to be played & no doubt we will hear/see opinions all over the map depending on whether the Skins lose or win & how certain people play. You just have to take it in stride & feel confident that the organization will make the right decisions moving forward (which I believe they will).

I'm not mad. We got beat by my hometown team. Lol I was getting killed by many Falcons fans, as well. Of course, my family poured it on, as well. It was funny. Well, the loss was disappointing. I'm thinking about moving forward. The conservative play calling was what upsets me the most. Is this going to continue or are we going to be more aggressive? To answer your last question, I wasn't expecting the playoffs, this year. I like our team, overall. I like the attitude. I must say that I like how the defense has played, especially Bashaud Breeland. He's our #1 CB, in my opinion. Dude has always impressed me. I knew he'd be able to hold his own on Julio, yesterday. Not to mention, made some very good breakups and a key INT. We have talent on offense, but do not fully utilize it with the conservative playcalling. I cannot stand conservative playcalling. That has got to change, moving forward.

Ok - thanks for the clarification. I guess it is a little tougher for you actually living in the area & having family & friends who root for the team. Hang in there - the Redskins day will come - it just may not be this year.

I love this team, SoCal! The OL has made me most proud. It's no longer Trent Williams and the misfits. This OL is solid. Morgan Moses was the common denominator. I was very hard on him, last year in the few games he played. Then, he gets hurt. We draft Brandon Scherff to be a RT. We release Chris Chester with plans for Spencer Long to be the guy at RG, but he didn't get the job done in preseason. Meanwhile, Moses has an outstanding offseason and preseason. With that, they decide to put Scherff at RG and put Moses at RT. It has totally payed off. The OL is no longer a problem, as crazy is that is to say.

I like a lot of the young talent we have, moving forward. They've got to get Rashad Ross more involved. Period. I'm loving how they are using Jamison Crowder, except for the bubble screen on 3rd down, yesterday. He almost broke some long ones, perhaps one to the house, if not for a good tackle. I like what Matt Jones has done, when he plays. Chris Thompson is slowly becoming a breakout, waiting to happen. I still like Ryan Grant. Jordan Reed can ball, but he can't stay on the field. :gaah:We've got to get DeSean Jackson back. Smh Also, we can't forget about Bashaud Breeland. He's quietly becoming a name at CB. I remember the bad game he had vs. the Giants, but he had the coverage. OBJ outreached him for one and Rueben Randle lucked up by catching Breeland's deflection for a TD. At this point, I just need more consistent and aggressive playcalling. Not to mention, more consistent QB-ing from KC. He cannot rush throws and throw off of his back foot. :L

I agree it was an awful call. But going for 2 put us in a bind too. I didn't like that decision at all.
