Don't know if this has been said yet, but Langs blasted Tommy and Wilbon for that play publicly. Said Tommy didn't go deep enough on his drop and Wilbon fucked up his route badly. Said they work on it every single day and stress both those things.

It's a concept play. It sets up other money maker plays. It wasn't just some "well let's just try this random thing now". Get used to seeing that play a lot. When it works it opens up a bunch of other route concepts.

I'm already used to seeing it. I knew what we were attempting to run the second they snapped it.

I also knew it was potentially trouble that close to the endzone. Your chances are high that you're losing yards there. Chances are low that you get a bad pass and bad route......if you can even call it a route. But anyways, we went with the low chances and fucked it up.

Chances were about just as low that we were going to turn anything out of that play. Oregon had the thing blown up from the second they saw the play start to develop.

Listen, if Tommy would have 5-stepped out of the gun he would have gotten his ass sacked because that play has to develop way faster than that.

Wilbon was way out of position from the get go. It didn't help that he saw the pressure coming off the edge so he knew he couldn't cut up field or he was going to get smothered as soon as the ball got to him.

So, really Tommy should have recognized this and pulled it down and ran with it. Like I said though, this would be a different play if it wasn't being ran at the 14 yard line. Red zone Offense is tough for a reason.

just rewatched the game thanks to BTN in 60. man they cut out a bunch of stuff which makes for some good quick viewing. i saw us run that exact same play several times (I didn't count an exact number but remember 2) and every time it was done right, but also outside the redzone. one i remember was a good 7-8yd gainer, good job of loosening up the middle. the other was an incomplete pass where TA threw it behind the RB. i mean he threw it behind the RB and it was still forward, that's how the play is designed. of course if TA hits the running back it would have been another decent gainer.

going back up to someone saying the coaches called a great game, i disagree especially with it fresh in my head like this. it was decent but not great. I think they could have stuck to the RB a little more, when TA was starting to hurt, maybe they were thinking OU wouldn't expect that but a few TA runs for only 2 yds just weren't necessary when we were mostly having our will there in the 2nd half with ozigbo.

i've heard it a lot on the radio, but it was clear we weren't ready the QB run, so focused on Freeman all week that we obviously didn't plan well for anyone else. they got a few stops thanks to some great plays but need more of those from folks.

Not trying to be negative, but I don't think we're going to see many games called greatly with our staff. The players better be prepared to execute out of their asses in most games.

I was saying they needed to move the ball towards the endzone! Getting cute with no room to work just gives me anxiety to the nth degree.

Nebraska was moving the ball by running it. Also, why take extra unnecessary risk with a very risky play, when there are plays that have less risk like a short pass. There's a really good chance for at least getting a FG there. That was at least a ten point swing there. Just plain ludicrous.

The call wasn't a backwards pass. That's not the issue. The issue I have is there would have been no danger of throwing a backwards pass if we just look towards the dadburned endzone.

Don't even put yourself in position to potentially throw a lateral there. Terrible playcall given the situation. Every coordinator out there makes bad calls from time to time. It happened there.

We can sit here and say "well if Wilbon was in the right position and it Tommy did this or that, then it would have worked 9 times out of 10."

I've seen those plays turn into fumbles so often. That was a critical drive in the game and we're lucky we didn't lose the damn game because of it. It was a 2 TD swing at the snap of a finger because of carelessness.

There's too many things that can go wrong on that play. There are so many other much less risky plays to call when in the red zone.
