Anything over 5 and 60 would be falling into the same salary cap hell they currently are in. Suh is already owed a huge sum y the Lions if he signs or leaves. At some point it will be cheaper to bring in DTs that may not be as good as Suh but you get good and cheaper and have flexibility to sign a few FA to bolster the entire defense.
I love the New England model. They ride their guys until it gets to expensive to keep them and they move on. You don't see them over paying to keep guys....Mankins, Wes Welker, and so on. Maybe the move on a year to early but you don't see them giving lifetime achievement contracts or be in a position they could not sign a guy like Talib when they fall into their laps.
Suh has been a stud but so was Albert Haynesworth and at some point his play declines but the contract doesn't. A good fair deal makes those situations easier to deal with than 6-8 years and a bloated contract that you are perpetually trying to renegotiate and add more years to.
