The kids parents were both killed on the White Night. I can't recall who that person was but I believe it was a grandfather.

Some astute viewers have pointed out that the cake he gets in each episode actually commemorates a year he's been on Europa and all the scenes we've seen of him are actually in the past. The farm house scene from episode 3(?) where something crash lands from space is Trieu recovering Veidt, her father.

That certainly makes sense. Although that would clearly require Dr. Manhattan to speak with Lady Trieu at some point in the future, since he would have no way of knowing about what crash landed yet.

That's pretty damn observant and extremely possible. I'm just glad I have more going on in my life than to over-analysis TV shows though.

Very satisfying ending for me.

Works perfectly if they just want to be 1 and done. But also could easily continue expanding if they want to do a S2 with a similar cast.
