Ranging from 91 SCF Game 6, to a 95-96 playoff game, to an 07-08 Pens/Caps matchup (the infamous Backstrom own goal game), and WOW is it interesting to see the development of the game. The earlier stuff, which I have seen before, but just now commenting on, was quite literally a different game. In the 91 game there was so much clutching going on I thought I was watching a car race, heck even in the 95/6 game there was a LOT of contact going on. It's amazing to go from that to the more recent game from only three years ago.
Separate note, more for Pens/Caps fans:
It's REALLY interesting to go back and watch that game. Both teams are so incredibly different now. Sure a lot of that has to do with the personnel, but just in looking at overall style of play, there is a vast difference. In the Pens case the way they exit their own zone was so freaking sloppy. I don't know how Blysma has them doing it so well now, but it's miles ahead of where this team was...and to think this team made it to the finals! I really think the league has made strides in talent since 2007...because the Pens rolled through the East, and honestly this squad probably wouldn't do that if they played in this year. The Caps...well, the difference between the current team and this one is probably similar to the difference in the team of last year and this one. Still, very interesting to note the changes.
