I found that documentary interesting but ultimately it didnt change my mind. The next day I found an article that essentially said college athletes get what equates to 17k a year in cash (if your considering what the average college student spends on food, gas, other things [ill try to post the link when I'm not hammered tomorrow morning]).
I just don't think they should get paid. The stars already most likely get enough money under the table, allowing players to get paid would just allow the schools with the best boosters to lay them EVEN MORE under the table to get them to go to their respective schools.
Now I'm not FULLY against a required stipend (though I would need some convincing) across all sports equal for all athletes (even useless sports like women's bowling or some shit) of like 2k a year. But I'm fully against a straight up pay for play type of deal
For example let's say you compromise and get some deal where the players are allowed 2% of all sales of their jersey....what's gonna stop an ultra rich booster from agreeing to a deal of buying ex: 10,000 of JFB's jersey each year??
It's just a very dangerous path IMO. If they can find a legitimately fair way of doing it I'm all for it, but I don't think they can...
You'd have to title 9 it I would think...or face lawsuits.
Like it or not.
In the end, don't really give a shit as long as players have enough to get by and are happy going to school in Lincoln. If they get more, great, Nebraska can afford it.
