I do not believe this article. The one has spoken. The team had a losing streak and lost in the bowl game. DH cannot coach kids up or keep them motivated. Bradley was able to do this in a couple games WVU won, but for some reason, could not keep up this task, nespecially during the spiral. Why? Hell man, I do not know. The one has not told us this. I may now attend Pitt games as I am convinced that we should have waited in the AAC for an ACC invite. I will wear my Mountaineer gear to the games as a way to draw attention to our blight. Hopefully other Mountaineer fans will join me in 2015.

Oh there is an agenda goin on there.
Let me translate:

"WVU won THREE more games this year than last, stay with BGN as we take you through national signing day and explain how this years signees will lead the football team (because it loses 90%of its offensive weapons this year) to upwards of EIGHT GAMES, that's right, you read that right folks, EIGHT BIG ONES in 2015 !!

This year was an improvement over last year for sure, it would be sad indeed if it were not better than losing to BOTH Kansas and IAST. Success?????? NO, there were too many close losses that SHOULD have been wins, whether we expected them to be when the season started is moot, the loss to TCU SHOULD have been a season defining win, we should never have lost to TT or Texas after the performances against MUCH better teams.

No wonder I'm so out of touch. We lost to Texas Tech this season? Which of the 3 applied to this loss? Motivation, conditioning, or coaching kids up?

I don't think this season was a success. Nor was it a failure. It was on target. It was what was expected. Maybe slightly more. I give them a C+

:agree:

DH met the goals laid out before him. If he gets fired by the new AD, it is not because of an "end of season spiral".

This is all moot, as WVU can not afford to fire him if they wanted to with the ridiculously one sided contract Luck gave him........... speaking of who needs fired, looks like Holgorsen loaned Efore to Iowa today........

I don't understand why you keep falling back to those two games as if they validate your point of view somehow..

I would suggest going back and you will find only 60% of the players that started the year were in the line up and 5 true freshman and 3 JUCO's were inserted.............

Why would this season not be considered a success? We won 3 to 4 more games than predicted...both sides of the ball improved drastically, we were very competitive in every game even though playing one of the toughest schedules out there, and so far have a great recruiting class coming in for next year. Players in the system showed vast improvement.

Damn gents what was unsuccessful about it, not beating every ranked team we played? Our worse loss was to Texas another bowl team.

This season was similar to 2012 - WVU performed above their abilities the 1st half of the season (even with the 2 tough losses to 'Bama and OK) to a 4-2 record. But then the team took a slide the 2nd half and lost 3 games they should not have for a 3-3 record, combined 7-5.

Then they roll into a bowl game and seem totally unprepared for the team they were facing. Outside of the first quarter - they simply were outplayed. I saw a lot of improvement in their execution this season - but the results were not what they should have been due to Turnovers, Red Zone scoring (or rather - lack of) and some weak special teams play.

Let's hope they get to work in the off season and can execute to their full potential.
Next year - anything less than 8 wins will be seen as a disappointment, at least by me.

:agree: what I've seen this bowl season showed that those teams we felt were ok losses and great wins may not have been. I really think we have a conditioning issue with our team, the late season fades say that our team lacks stamina. Next year will show the coaches mettle, whole lot of seniors to replace, a QB to find, an OC to hire. Next year will be interesting for sure.

You make some great points… and, I think all of us could debate them for quite some time.

You feel this season was similar to 2012. Because of the record… because of how both teams were ranked in midseason, and lost enough to fall out of the rankings?

IMO, there is no similarity between the two seasons outside of the excitement that was generated by some early success. In 2012, we knew the offense was capable of doing big things after the Orange Bowl, but it was apparent in the Marshall game that the defense had issues, and the BU game validated what many thought… the defense sucked. Yes… the offense was off two weeks in a row against TT and KSU… but, the offense did enough in each of the remaining games they lost to win… the defense couldn't stop crap.

This year, most of us questioned the naming of Clint Trickett as the starting QB during the summer. You had to question whether he'd make it through the regular season as he was injured a few times last year after taking over the starting role in the 4th game of the season. Clint was amazing in his first 7 games… throwing for over 300 yds per game with a completion percentage near 70%. Then came the TCU game, and we all feel we know what happened in that game… and speculate how it affected him and our offense afterwords. The team narrowly lost to two great opponents, but it wasn't like the defense got blown out of either game as was the case in the 2012 season. It came down to mistakes at crucial times by either the QB… the defense… or ST's.. but these narrow margins reflect the narrow gap between WVU and its new rivals.

Regarding the bowl game this year. I too was disappointed to see our defense struggle. Give credit to Spavital for using his big hogs up front to dominate our undersized DL, and to establish some option running plays with their drop back QB. WVU's offense performed about as well as I could have hoped with a kid starting just his 2nd game. I know… people will point out Jones from tOSU… but… come on… Jones was a 5 star QB with a 12 gauge arm… and for 250 lbs… runs pretty well… and can make a LB pay for attempting to bring him down. Skyler was throwing high as I think his emotions affected his mechanics… he panicked in the pocket too… never as easy to throw on the run as it is to step into it.
