What was going on between Doc and Burrell in the 1st? Halladay is a very classy guy from everything I've ever heard or read. Was Halladay looking at the ump and Burrell misconstrued the meaning?

My first take: Halladay wanted some calls from the ump, and was staring him down. Burrell was unhappy with the called strike three and was talking to the ump. Burrell thought Halladay was staring him down and said something like, "what the fuck are you looking at". And there was some kind of quick verbal exchange. The next time Burrell came up to bat the first pitch was way outside - to me this is exactly what you'd do as a tip of the cap to say " no hard feelings".
Alternate take: Halladay was pissed that Burrell was "lobbying" the ump over the strikezone, and Burrell took offense to Halladay taking offense.
Thanks gp. I would assume one of those two were true. Both seem like pretty classy guys on the field so I found it pretty odd.
Never knew about the above in bold either. Pretty cool.
What would you do if you hit someone by mistake the next time they came up to the plate? For me: one way outside, then a little eye contact and a slight nod of the head.
Oh for sure. I guess I was just a greedy little bitch as a pitcher and wanted to take every strike I could. You're right though, that is a good way to show the hitter what's up.
Yeah, well, I guess with a 73mph fastball you wouldn't really need to apologize anyway.
Dude, I could crank it up to 77-78 every once in awhile when I was really mad. That's when the hitter really had to be afraid.....

When I was watching the recap of the situation in the second inning, I didnt see Halladay say anything. It looked like Burrell over-reacted.
After the game, Doc was asked about the situation and he said he was just looking over because it looked like Burrell and the ump were getting into it (he was just rubber-necking).
Krukow seemed to think it was the second scenario.
