Given how Murray has performed I don't see anyone trading now for a contract they weren't prepared to give out 1 year ago.

I don't think their talking about trading for Murray, their talking if he's released. With Chip gone the chances of Murray being released are very low.

well a 20% raise kinda depends on where you have to move to IMO

I had the chance to move for a 75% pay increase to Pittsburgh after figuring in all the numbers it was really a 30% increase to move to the Rust Belt 1000 miles from close friends and family and having to deal with the "weather" which Dallas has only on occasion in the winter.

I opted to stay put and enjoy Texas I have never regretted that decision

If the new job offered you 2 to 4 Mil more than 4Mil would you suffer through a couple of Pittsburgh winters?

But it's not the same contract now. Already paid out the signing bonus and roster bonus and salary from last year. A new team wouldn't incur any of that expense or cap hit. Now it's a 4 year $31M contract with just this years salary and a small portion of next years guaranteed. This years in meaningless since you aren't going to trade for him and not keep him at least this year. So it's $2M next year you could be stuck with...basically nothing.I'm not saying I'd trade for him; I'm just saying it is a totally different contract.

He was paid $9M last year. He's due $7M this year, (which is fully guaranteed), and $8M in future years. $2M of the 2017 salary is also guaranteed so realistically you're looking at $9M this coming year and $6M in 2017. It's not a dramatically different contract from 1 year ago. I can't imagine any team that wasn't prepared to offer him $9M guaranteed, $9M guaranteed, $6M, & $8M now trading a pick for a $9M guaranteed, $6M, & $8M contract. Would Murray be offered a $15M/2 year deal if he was a FA? I doubt it after his performance in 2015.

No, it is totally different and I don't know what you mean by in future years. After this season he has only $2M guaranteed left. If you trade for him this year you don't care if this year is guaranteed or not. This time last year he costs your cap two full guaranteed years, now it's down to one and the first year cap hit is off the books for a prospective team. That is a huge difference.

You could sign him and give him $7M this year and cut him and basically get one year for $9M out of him if you aren't happy with him. That is way less than tagging him would cost

Offer 50-100% more money, and the decision is tough. I'd have to know exactly what was expected of me. The NFL is loose enough that you could, for most coaches and not sure about Chip, live where you want and commute in for OTA's, practices, and the season. Then you can live wherever you like.

For me, even that much money wouldn't get me to Philly. I'd have to live there year round, and I couldn't do that. Cost of living, friends and family, weather, people...no dice.

Don't forget the cost of whatever you give up to get him back. Without Chip in Philly there is no way they give him up for a future 6th rounder. Some new coach will give him a running scheme that uses his power. So we would also have to give up either a decent pick (4th at least) or a player.

Maybe it's my military time that makes me less adverse to moving for a job. Wife want to move back to Maryland I say no way, but if I was offered 2M more a year, on a 4 year deal I'd have to make the move. Id just have to move again when that contract is up. I do understand the not leaving your comfort zone and friends, but this is about Murray, a football player who went to the money. Let's remember Murray isn't from Dallas, he's from Vegas. Football players rarely play where they grew up, home is where they are being paid.

I agree, and for an NFL football player moving isn't that big of a deal. Figure that half the season they are not even in their "home town" for almost half that week. It is less of an issue for a football player, or any pro sports player to move. For me, it would be a massive ordeal. And yeah, if someone is paying me $2M then I'm moving almost anywhere. Talking percentages though and 50% to 100% raise isn't enough to get me to move some places. I'd go to some nice place in Florida or Colorado for a 100% raise :)

To be clear, I am not in any way stating I would trade for Murray. But totally agree on what you give back. That is why trades are seldom a good idea IMO. Why give up a pick and pay a full value contract when there is almost always another FA option that costs only the full value.

Trust me doubling my current salary isn't enough to get me to Maryland. Now double my money to move to Texas I'm moving ASAP.

I hope no one thinks I'm advocating trading for Murray. My argument is if he's cut I'd more than welcome him back.

Same here. No trading for him, but I'd make the same offer we did last time. Let him come back and be extremely grateful and with a chip on his shoulders. I'm sure he is sitting around stewing right now about being humiliated last season.
