Won't throw for at least a week. Seems more and more unlikely that he starts the year in the rotation. Maybe it's the pessimist Mariners fan in me but does this seem like it's going down the road of the Hultzen injury. Started with minor shoulder soreness and got progressivly worse. I hope I'm wrong but we just don't seem to have the best luck with this. With kuma in doubt I guess your opening rotationb is. 1. Felix. 2. Baker. 3. Ramirez. 4. Paxton. 5. Wolf, Maurer, Beaven or Minor. Really hope it's minor with Walker but I'm cautiously optimistic at this point.

That is exactly why I say every year you should never count on rookies, especially rookie SP"s to make your MLB roster. They should be treated as bonus babies. Fill out your roster with vets and let the rookies beat them out. Never even tentatively pencil them in because when this happens you are left with nothing. Maholm and/or Capuano or even a guy like Phil Hughes. You never have enough MLB pitching and that is why the Dodgers are smart for adding all those arms. UG!!!!

The rotation has needed to be addressed for years and Jack keeps putting bandaids and stop gaps on an issue that needs an amputation. Getting guys like Millwood, Harang, Saunders, Baker (1 year solutions) when you should be concentrating and getting a guy who can be a solution for a few years. Not to mention Walker and Paxton will be on innings limits anyway so you shouldn't rely on them for 2/5 of the rotation.

Kinda feel like Walker is Z's last shot at creditability since non of these "hitting prospects" have not panned out.

To be fair though, what answers are out on the FA market? You in the Ervin Santana boat? You very well could get the same production from a baker, millwood, harangatang type guy only its a 1 year cheap contract opposed to 4 years 40 mill............

Not at all saying we have to sign Santana. However like AZ pointed out there were options earlier on like Capuano and Hughes that we should have looked into. I even would have liked to see us bring back Vargas. Point is the rotation should have been an emphasis once the season ended. And no I don't count signing Baker, Wolf and Minor to minor league deals addressing the rotation.

At one point last year our rotation included Saunders, Harang and Bonderman, all aging veterans whom no one wanted. How am I supposed to be sold on a rebuilding plan when 3/5 of your rotation is aging veterans.

Does anybody know if McClellan brought in a new training staff?

It seems like a great time to do that.

Common sense is not so common, though.
