Haha.. ugh.. don't remind me.. still not happy about the upcoming suspension because I think he's only getting it because of who he is and the fact that Stoll is likely out for game 2.

By the time he serves all of it, he'll be UFA and someone else's problem but still sucks.

Technically, you missed Raffi hitting cleanly and getting suspended because he's Raffi.

He is suspended pending outcome.

So they suspended him before he even got a chance to say a word. Guilty without due process. No chance in hell they will lift his suspension.

25 games for the Hossa hit, several others, now this. What does this guy have to do to get kicked out of the league? Serious question. Will it take someone losing their vision? Paralysis? Death?

Ah, so baldy thinks that was a punishable hit? That settles it. It wasn't.

Maybe an actual dirty hit?

He's hit dirty and is certainly no angel, but this one wasn't one of 'em.

Scumbags like Bertuzzi, Probert, Brashear and Avery never got tossed from the league. Raffi should not be the precedent. Not for that one.

I guess this is like the OJ going to prison for stealing memorabilia thing. Not why he *should* be there, but they wanted to get him there somehow.

The league has a huge problem on its hands with these hits. You can't say they are clean and legal if a guy ends up with a head injury - thinking like that is from a by gone era. Today safety is beginning to trump everything, including the rules.

What we as fans deem to be a clean and legal check (not dirty) with the shoulder being the principal point of contact can still be a punishable offense if secondary points of contact include the head - anytime a hit has head contact, either primary or incidental, it falls into this category, and it doesn't matter if the check was clean or dirty. That's just the way it is, but until they (zebras and Shanny in particular) start to call this and punish this in a consistent manner, nothing will change .

All I can see is it's going to make it very difficult to "blow guys up" or "destroy" them as usually those hits involve targeting a player with his head down. Hitting and checking needs to evolve, whether the fans like it or not.

If a guys gets a concussion from receiveing a hit, that hit is punishable, wheter or not we deem the hit to be clean or dirty. We just have to accept this.

Actually, we don't. As I have said before hockey is a fast game played on a slippery surface inside a box by large men with sticks in their hands and knives on their feet. Injuries just are a fact of life.

To start punishing every hit will turn the game into soccer on ice. It is going that way with the league punishing anything borderline, the amount of diving and embellishment is way up.

So does the slippery slope of "player safety" eventually include ice (synthetic to slow it down) boards (made of memory foam) and the puck (change to tennis balls)? Full face shields would save a lot of concussions. So make that mandatory. Slapshots hurt, so no more of those. And the sticks. If picking your stick up off the ice was not allowed, everyone would be safer.

Bring back the rover, and the two line pass. Do automatic icing, and do away with touch up on offsides. Bring back the neutral zone trap. Stop calling obstruction. Clog the ice so much you can't get enough speed to get hit hard enough. Go ahead and stick the HANS device on every player. Yeah, they weigh 15 pounds, but the neck can't move.

And the goals. They should be ten feet wide. More goals from center ice means less battles in the crease. Maybe even do away with goalies altogether. Because those guys get SHOT AT.

Or better yet, turn the NHL into a life size table hockey game. Don't let anyone who could get hurt play themselves. They just operate the knobs ans switches. WATCH OUT FOR SPLINTERS!

We don't have to accept it. And I will not.

Sorry guys are getting hurt, and I think the equipment has done a phenomenal job of keeping up with the advancement in the speed and style of play - I am constantly amazed at the quality of the gear my son has compared to what I did. Obviously, I would hate him to get hurt, so I tell him to keep his head up. That and proper gear maintenance are the two biggest factors in whether or not he does.

Bottom line is no one forced these guys to play hockey. There are plenty of "safer" sports they can play. And I would not miss them.

The league needs to call it to the rules and stop coddling stars and "sending messages". THAT'S what's most dangerous right now.

As Joe Thornton said, get your head up!

There has to be a responsibility on the player being hit to protect himself.

Let's be realistic, they say it is for player safety but it is really the league trying to cover it's ass against future litigation. Look at the heat the NFL is getting from former players. The NHL sees this and feels that it needs to take measures to protect its long term financial stability.

If they NHL keeps publicly announcing that hits that are causing concussions are legal they may be creating exposure to risk down the road. I don't like it either but that is the way the league is going and while we may never accept it, it is happening regardless.

I honestly expect no less than 10 games.

So fucking ridiculous.

EDIT: Also, I thought this was pretty great:
