how long does it take to do this suspension jebus
It takes a while to dig the special Raffi edition of the Wheel of Justice out of storage.
Pierre weighs in:
NHLonTSN: Pierre McGuire on Raffi Torres: "How many times will he target a player's head before getting the message?" heard on @TSN1050Radio
25 games for the Hossa hit, several others, now this. What does this guy have to do to get kicked out of the league? Serious question. Will it take someone losing their vision? Paralysis? Death?
The league has a huge problem on its hands with these hits. You can't say they are clean and legal if a guy ends up with a head injury - thinking like that is from a by gone era. Today safety is beginning to trump everything, including the rules.
What we as fans deem to be a clean and legal check (not dirty) with the shoulder being the principal point of contact can still be a punishable offense if secondary points of contact include the head - anytime a hit has head contact, either primary or incidental, it falls into this category, and it doesn't matter if the check was clean or dirty. That's just the way it is, but until they (zebras and Shanny in particular) start to call this and punish this in a consistent manner, nothing will change .
All I can see is it's going to make it very difficult to "blow guys up" or "destroy" them as usually those hits involve targeting a player with his head down. Hitting and checking needs to evolve, whether the fans like it or not.
If a guys gets a concussion from receiveing a hit, that hit is punishable, wheter or not we deem the hit to be clean or dirty. We just have to accept this.
