A defensive slopfest, but if the US can learn defensive positioning with the proper personnel the 4-3-3 formation could elevate our play. We can run with any team in the world. We can match anyone in the air. But if we do not have the defensive positioning/fundamentals/personnel figured out we will never be able to institute an attacking, possession style necessary of compete against the best.

Yes, but our defense has always been protected by 10 men in the box and a counter strike. So, our defense has always been bad but we never knew how bad until Klinsman finally pushed the evolution of US soccer to embrace possession, offense etc.

We need a guy who can coach us up defensively. It's worse than I thought.

Defense has clearly been the biggest issue with the USMNT for 2-3 years now. I wish I had the numbers on how many different back 4 lineups we've played over that span. They're young though, they'll come around once we can find a set lineup

Lots of young players that should get better. He's got 2 years to figure it out. At least we're playing a style that's fun to watch. We're actually scoring goals from the run of play, not just set pieces. That was unthinkable under arena and Bradley.

And Klinsman is evolving the play but I don't know if we have the depth to field an attacking, possessing team not exposed on the back end.... In two years.

I believe we have the ability to field that attacking team. I don't know if we've got the CB's to hold it together.
