Wow. A point. I'll take it.
So does anyone notice a difference between Klinsman's USMNT and Arena's?

I agree.... the problem was, JK wanted guys to play aboard and this was in direct conflict with the MLS objectives. And lets face it, MLS and US Soccer are not church and state.I still think Klinsman was getting us there - as far as we could get - taking a long-term strategic approach to get overall improvement.

I'm with JK on that. Let's be real. The MLS sucks. Even prior to the game on FS1 showed a piece on Omar Gonzalez and he was saying how much he was able to improve his game since playing in Mexico. Our guys should really try their best to play in England, Spain, Germany, or even Italy.

The MLS can certainly have it's place. But as a developmental league for US Soccer? No thanks.
Our top players unless their up there in age as Clint, Howard, and Bradley are should never play in the MLS.
I agree, but I think Deuce and Bradley both left Europe before they graduated into that 'old guy' status. There are (were?) teams they could play for which are much more competitive than any MLS team.
In a perfect World sure. But are all of the players in the EPL English, Bundesliga German, La Liga Spanish? Those other countries that send their best talent to these leagues do just fine Internationally. You need to build your league to attract top talent and maybe that will just never happen here. But you cannot let your top talent play in an inferior league and expect to compete for a World Cup. Could it happen, sure, is it the best way, noThere is something to be said for having a few of our national players in MLS. It allows more people to actually see the national team players in person. Publicity ultimately sells jerseys and merchandise. Money matters.
I also believe that the more money that MLS makes, the better soccer talent we will attract.
MLS has an average game attendance of ~21,700. In comparison the Spanish League averages 28,000, the English league averages 36,000, the German league averages 43,000. The NFL averages 68,000. MLB averages 30,000.
MLS average attendance is ahead of the various Tier 2 leagues in England, Germany, etc. It's ahead of the Scottish league, the NBA, and the NHL. We're on par with Italy, Argentina, France, and the Netherland's leagues.
In the long term, it is useful to have good soccer talent play in MLS. If MLS attendance get to the ~28,000 mark we can afford to pay for better talent.
I never understood why Clint went from Tottenham to MLS. Should have just found a mid level EPL team such as Southampton or Stoke City instead of going to Seattle
Dempsey mentioned early in his career with Fulham, that he wanted to return to the states by the age of 30 due to family reasons. The timing was right, as the year he moved to Seattle was the year leading up to the WC in Brazil....and he was 30.
Would have been cool to see him get to play in the Champions League.
