So you don't believe Senior golfers should be in golf carts. My dad is an excellent golfer and very fit but has a back condition that doesn't allow him to walk 18 holes. So you would discriminate against older folks and folks with medical conditions that make it difficult to walk.

I think this course is fine for tour players. I don't think this is a course for a hack, but I don't see why that matters. This course isn't targeted towards people that aren't big time golfers. You're not going to spend $400 or whatever it is to play this course if you're not already a good golfer. And, I doubt it takes 6 hours for a typical round, but even if it does, it's a one time thing. The USGA isn't using this course as an example for courses across America, they tried that last year and it didn't work. This course is set up for tour pros and allows people to play. Gary Player acting like it's for everyday golfers to go out and play after work or whatever is just way off base.

He makes good points when he talks about the kind of courses that should be being built in America, but that doesn't mean there can't be courses for tour pros. There just needs to be a way to have courses the golfing public feels is acceptable without being this long, undulating, and difficult.

There are other courses similar to Chambers Bay that have fast well manicured greens. An example would be Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin where the PGA Championship will be played in August.

I agree. Pinehurst last year as well. I've mentioned several times the greens were bad and not championship quality. There's no debate. That being said, that's not what Gary Player was saying in that rant.

crybabies like him who hope to someday win a major should really just look at what that kind of mentality has done for sergio. he still acts like an entitled little teenager. maybe horschel will be accountable for his own incompetence someday, but his little tantrum doesn't give me much hope.

Again, he won the FedEx Cup, not sure why you think that is mindset will not let him win a Major even though he can win the Fed Ex Cup...Everyone has the same playing field, but it's not a good playing field. Just because the playing field is the same doesn't mean it doesn't give some people an advantage over others, at least that's the point Horschel was making, and it makes perfect sense.

Most of these so called experts are Washington residents.

These guys want cookie cutter courses that are just like every other course and the second they see something out of the ordinary they freak out. You know what that makes for? Boring Sundays because everybody is going to stick their shots down the stretch on receptive fairways and greens.

You know why this course got the bid?

1. They want to get something going in this area because golf is actually big up here
2. They wanted a different looking course that's actually a real challenge so there isn't yet another major where the winner is 10+ under and basically coasts to the championship
3. They like the concept of the surface because it's more eco-friendly and you're going to start seeing more and more of it. Believe it or not, local communities are going to start to balk at all the water it takes to water the 200+ acre lawns so the pros don't bitch
4. It's a public course

The problem was the greens weren't put together well and they couldn't shut down the course to fix them because Pierce County spent a ton of money on this and didn't want to lose the greens fees, which is very understandable. Some of the greens are fine, some of them obviously aren't. Pebble Beach has been ragged on a few times when their greens weren't in good shape for big tournaments.

Like I've said, all the players have made their point. Now the guys who everybody knows are huge jackasses are just going and going because that's what they like to do.

The pros are comparing these greens to the best courses in the world. The general public would compare them to the other courses in the area. It'd be interesting to see how the course compared to the public golf courses in other parts of the country now. I'm sure the greens are bad compared to other places hosting PGA tournaments, but that doesn't mean the place is awful. I'm sure the course would do well when compared to other courses during most of the year. There's no way the greens are always this bad. They couldn't charge $350 for a 6 hour round with no carts if a typical above average golfer thought these greens were as bad as the pros do.
