So i generally like Gruden and have defended him on here frequently but...

Something that i don't think he's gotten enough criticism for (maybe ive just missed it) is not taking advantage of McVay while he was here enough.

Grudens a solid offensive mind but McVay is probably the best offensive coach in the league and extremely creative in attacking defenses. When you watch the Rams you really dont see an offense like Grudens at any point in the last 5 years. I think Gruden should have incorporated more of McVays ideas and been more creative.

Thoughts?

Jay was Sean's mentor/teacher since 08'...c'mon man.

Actually that's on Kirk. Kirk came to Sean and begged him to let him air it out. That conversation was captured on NFL miced up.

Heh. Of course he did. RBs go to coaches beggin to run the rock. WRs let everyone know they go to coaches and QBs beggin for the rock etc etc. Coaches need to know when to say yay n nay, but at the same time.......

McVay was young, Kirk was young and things went how they went. And while it may've hurt or didn't help the Skins at the time. Its probably served both McVay and Kirk well personally.

Sure.

Yet mcvay is more creative and a better offensive mind. Gruden should've learned a little more from the student. The rams offense is designed to perfection. Ours is not.

McVay seems to have take the best from people he worked for. He uses Shanahan's zone blocking a fair amount.

It was a work of art how he managed to get Vikings LBer lined up on two WRs and Gurley. Film study and game planning.

Its the combination of McVay creating the mismatches and Zimmer's inability to make defensive adjustments. Minny's defense, its bread and butter last year, has struggled mightily; except in the red zone where they're currently ranked number six.

I agree with OP.

I have a lot of criticism towards Gruden but I never really thought of this one and there is some validity/logic behind it.

Mcvay is light years ahead of Gruden when it comes to creativity and creating and exploiting mismatches. TNF was some of the best offensive scheming I have ever seen in the NFL.

I wanted the Skins to pull a TB Bucs from the start. TB fired Lovie Smith to promote Koetter out of fear of losing Koetter.

Skins should have did the same. I was all about it at the time and still am.
