He is have a great camp so far and is about to make his 1st start. He is doing great on D and on Special teams. This is one player that I thought we should of went after in the draft. He was a 1st rd talent before his troubles. i thought he would be a great fit for Harbaugh to coach and get him on the right track. Overall he looks like he might be a steal for Arizona.

What did you guys think of him during draft time?

What position can he play? He can't be a cover CB.

I was down to take a flyer on him later in the draft b/c if he can stay alive/out of jail he gives you great return ability at a minimum. I also compared him to Iverson in that teams may test him and not have a vulnerable target against TE's. I think I teamed him back up with Reid in one of the mocks.

I didn't want him in the third though. Too much character risk. I can't remember exactly what I was saying then, but it was probably like 5th rd or later take a stab. Especially with Ginn gone. If you search, there may be an old thread dedicated to him.

Why not? His athleticism, instincts, aggressiveness and ball skills are elite. Kids a football player his height isn't that large a problem.

It is if you match him up against a 6'4" guy who can jump.

I wouldn't have drafted him as early as he went without character concerns, personally. I'd have taken a late flier but that's about it.

There aren't a ton of great receivers that big. I think his other attributes allow him to compete with anyone. Not that hell never get beat but he competes and he makes big plays. Obviously character is a concern but I'm just talkin shop.

I've said time and again, if Mathieu was 6' and didn't get in trouble then he would have been a top 15 pic.

There are enough to keep him from being more than a slot guy.

Elite? Like, NFL elite? Is he a shorter Revis?

That's a resounding no. He would be serviceable outside if he was taller, and is maybe a serviceable slot guy as is. I don't expect beyond that.

Yes his talent level is high if you watch his college play the guy makes game changing plays against elite athletes. His height is really his only knock as a football player. In today's NFL you're willing to give up some completions to get some big plays. He wreaks havoc in the turnover department. Honey Badger is an apt handle.:agree:

We will see. He reminds me of Steve Smith (the panther) the defensive version.

Plenty of players who dominate college aren't right for the pros. I'm not convinced he's not one of them.

I understand that I just disagree.
