It's a Cincinnati tradition. And the "chili" is actually a Greek-inspired concoction...not like southwestern chili at all.

And don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

I think that's what people miss - The chili doesn't resemble anything close to the type of chili they eat in Texas. It's more of a spicy meat sauce with a very thin consistency. Then you dump approximately 2 lbs. of shredded cheese on top.

Skyline chili is inedible. Gold Star chili is fantastic, though.

Cincy. Where I grew up in PA, we had a place called Coney Island.
They did the greatest chilli dogs wher they had a thin meat sauce type of chilli,
and then they spread, not chopped, but almost puree'd onions on top.
Damn I'm hungry now.

OK, I'll ask, since I've not been to Gold Star, and some of the locals I know said it was second-rate. (This is probably like the raging war of words between fans of Pat's and Geno's in Philly).

Is Gold Star more like American chili, or is it also Greek-like?

It's like Skyline, but just a slightly different recipe. Most people say Skyline is better just because. Those people are what I like to call "wrong."

Gold star is meatier and spicier. Skyline is runny diarreah.

The Gold Star franchise is owned and operated by the Taliban, though. All ragheads. They make a mean Cincy style chili, though.

Gold Star is meatier. though, you can always request your skyline chili dry to elimate a lot of the watery run that does sometimes accompany it.

I can go for either.

I see. Then I'll try Gold Star next time.

They sell it here in southern Ohio grocery stores also you can get it in the frozen food section and its the shit, make sure to pile on the shredded cheese, oyster crackers and some tabasco and you're good to go :hungry:

I prefer Gold Star, too, but I like Skyline just fine.....agree that Gold Star is a little meatier.....Cincy chili is the shit, though like a fine single malt scotch, it's not for everyone.....

Yeah, you go other places and call it chili and they just laugh.

It's a Cincinnati thing...and that's ok.

Really, either place is good enough.
