Edit: THIS IS LOUD AS FUCK
(sorry, I didn't have my headphones on until I went back)

Live cam in an old lighthouse off the coast of NC in case you want to watch.

And if you're wondering where it is in relation to the storm/coast:
Windy: Wind map & weather forecast

IE: It is currently a long ways off the cam and the wind is THAT bad.

Winds currently at 43knt. Peak gusts for this storm could be 4 times that.

I don't think Sandy or Katrina or Harvey or Matthew or Irma were overhyped at all. Just because they can't get it right most of the time (the nature of the beast, pun intended), doesn't mean hype. Having gone thru 2 of those myself, this is serious shit.

That said, I'm amazed at the relative accuracy of mathematical and computer models used to predict the path of a hurricane days before and after it makes landfall. Gives plenty of time for preparations that we did not have just a couple of decades ago. Of course, those who think it's too much hype will be the ones ill-prepared, and deservedly so.

For the record, The Weather Channel is my go to source for storms like these. Their coverage is by far the most comprehensive and responsive of all the news sources.

I'm not saying EVERY storm system is overhyped, but its' a boy who cried wolf situation. When your local news or TWC is freakin' out because it's raining hard or there MAY be 4 inches of snow (in which case everything will be totally fine!), it becomes harder as a viewer/reader to discern the really bad situations. Mild weather is dangerous. Bad weather is disasterous. And emergency situations are apocalyptic!

As an example... they've started naming snow systems on the Weather Channel. That used to be reserved just for tropical storms and hurricanes. This wasn't a designation by the National Weather Service and they are following it. They invented it in 2012 and have used it since. Many have criticized them for exactly the reason above. I agree the Weather Channel is good for situations like these. Based on their name - let's hope so! But they are also a hype machine.

And now... this...

This is the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle. For referencing the wave heights, I think the pier is either 20 or 25 feet above sea level.

If you're a Republican, here's what you believe - black people shouldn't get anything for free, even if they need it.

Your farm bills, your tax cuts, your health care plans, all of it. God forbid someone struggles and has a kid. We wouldn't want them getting that sweet $1.40 per meal that SNAP helps people with. Monsters.

LOL....at 9 feet of water you see fish floating around...

Yeah no clue why I found that funny but it does get a little condescending in how it is reported. Yes I know there are A LOT of dumb people but this gets comical after a point.

We just need this:

That's the facepalmable point. The amount of purely dumb people there are and that they're being coddled.

Please just let Darwin do his job.

Oh yeah my boys loved that. Nothing is worse than going to one of those Day out with Thomas events.

The only cool thing the wooden toys if they got damaged the toy company would replace them for free.

“Thomas the Tank is now bringing gender balance to the show by adding girl trains. Seriously,” she snipped about the preschool show, which she dubbed “creepy.” Loesch ranted that the show doesn’t need “ethnic diversity” when it “literally has no ethnicities because they’re trains. …

So trains can't have ethnicities, but you are upset about them having ethnicities?

Makes sense.
