I was reading that in the CBC link, I wonder if that just emboldened the Chinese to hit him now?

The US economy is definitely slowing and that definitely makes a trade war tougher for anyone to swallow but China's economy is slowing at a much more alarming rate, has been for quite some time and with the Hong Kong stuff thrown in I guess I just see it as a good time to push back at them a little.

I'd say "But that's just my uninformed opinion" but I'm probably about as informed as anybody in his cabinet anyway so...

Plus, the tariffs announced by China today are targeted at goods and products coming out of US election swing states.

Chinas economy will slow further and the economy of any country that exports to them will suffer. And it will all come full circle when those countries imports from the US slow. China can wait this out until the US election a year from now. Its not like “hereby ordering” companies to go back to manufacturing in the US is gonna do sweet fuck all. The inertia of decades of offshoring cant be turned around in one year.
