This is the first trade where I am questioning Elias. Rogers is the definition of ‘mid‘ and they are solely paying for a lefty who has team control.

Norby and Stowers should have netted Tanner Scott along with Rogers.

Yeesh.

I sure hope they see a flaw they can fix because I agree with you that its an expensive trade for a #4 starter, even with his lefthandedness.

The velo is down from 2021, and Kim Ng put some kind of secret sauce into the pitching in Miami because from 2021-2023, they developed pitching very well on all levels. What worries me is that Rogers had that great year in 2021, and has trended WAY down ever since, while many trended up in 2022-23.

We definitely paid for control.

Control of a medicore pircher doesnt help.

See Cole Irvin.

Unless our pitching coaches can correct something, this was a gross overpay.

Not disagreeing at all. Rolling with Irvin would have been just as good of a choice in my mind than overpaying for Rogers.

The early returns are not great. But both Norby and Stowers aren’t doing much with Miami. Does not make it right, and I think a real conversation needs to happen about Rogers the rest of the year, but he could be someone who could pitch well next season and put all of this behind him. Pitching mechanical changes are much harder to make in-season than hitting ones.

Orioles fans on Twitter: But...but....he had an era of 2 since June!!!!!!!!
I know I've said it before but I'll say it again. Should've used Stowers and Norby to acquire Tanner Scott instead. Would love to see Rogers turn it around to make this trade pan out in the long run but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen either. Also, if we get Scott, we likely don't have Gregory Soto wasting a space in the bullpen rarely being used while we burn through all the other arms.

Ive come to the conclusion that the only reason why we wanted Rogers is because A. he was cheap and B. he wasnt a rental.
