Silverback gets the honors, Kerrigan and Jordan Reed alts
Excerpt
Late this summer, the Washington Redskins displayed their respect for Trent Williams by making him the highest-paid offensive tackle in the game, signing him to a five-year, $66 million contract extension.
Now, the NFL’s players, coaches and fans have likewise showed their respect for Williams, giving the sixth-year veteran the nod for his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl.
Williams learned of the honor Tuesday evening when the league announced the selections, which were based on the tabulation of league-wide coach, player and fan votes.
“I’m extremely honored,” Williams said in a statement released by the Redskins. “To me, this is a huge award to receive more so because it reflects on how your peers view you on and off the field. I’m extremely excited to have this award for the fourth time, and it couldn’t have come at a better time while we’re in the midst of our playoff hunt.”
Williams could have some burgundy-and-gold company in Hawaii, although it’s not a sure bet.
Tight end Jordan Reed and outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan were selected as alternates for the game, which will be held the week before the Super Bowl. If players at their positions withdraw either because of the Super Bowl or because of injury, Reed and Kerrigan could earn last-minute spots.
