Trent Murphy adds bulk, but must shed old instincts in switch to end

Good piece by Keim. The team is hoping he becomes another Justin Smith, which is, at least at this time, a bit of a pipe dream. But the guy looks like he's adding weight well and he is very strong. He always looked out of place as an edge rusher, and I think he'll be much better at DE.

We shall see.

Right now its Baker and Reyes as the starters. You have to figure Paea and Murphy are the next two guys. That leaves RJF, Hood, Crawford, and Ioannidis. Ioannidis would have to be a NT along with Goldsten. So its RJF, Hood, and Crawford for one spot. The total should be 7 dlineman.

another good read from Kiem ... man, us Skins fans are spoiled when it comes to great coverage, lls

he touches on the TE position, Cravens at LB, and then gets into defensive improvements & if the the d-line can play better then last year

I stand by my belief we will be better defensively by simply tackling better.

yep i agree if we tackle better it should limit big plays

No doubt. I'd opine the correct taking of angles is another thing that's very obvious, but would make a significant difference far as an upgrade in the Skins defense as well.

well i never make that clear but i personally count taking proper angles as part of tackling so i would agree with you 100% . we are in year 2 with barry . they have a year under their belts in the system . i expect some improvement but talent wise i think we are middle of the pack

The thing about tackling and angles, they are not really taught characteristics at this level. You either do or you don't. We have improved tremendously with the additions of Norman, Cravens, and Daniels. Tackling improved last season with Compton and Foster.

Those additions alone will make us better. Add that too Galette being back, PS with a season under his belt and apparently improving, and hopefully an interior pass rush...we have the makings of great strides.

Coach Barry agrees. Its the reason he makes his guys practice it on TC's opening day.

But we get a flag when we tackle them after they already scored. On a serious note if its mainly our LB's and secondary doing the most of the tackling it means the running backs are having some decent long runs.
