What a welcome win. Good game Rangers!!!

It was our first win against Shoemaker. Glad we were able to cobble something together against him.

Matt can be real good or he can throw up a clunker from time to time. Usually when he's not 100%, but I think their whole pitching staff is about 75% except for Santiago

Someday you will be telling your grandkids about a guy called Roogie

Day is pretty close or there for some of us. DP was thing of beauty. One of the big reasons I love baseball

When it was done, they had seen a total of 181 pitches from four different Angels' pitchers. A year ago, the Rangers crossed the 180 mark in pitches seen just four times in nine inning games. They did not do it until May 23 and only once before the All-Star break.

CF Delino DeShields took five bases on steals, throwing errors and wild pitches.

Like I said. No worries about Delino with the bat.

I've gotta say, overall I was pretty pleased with Griffin. He had some shakey moments, but he did his job. I'll take his line from a 5th starter all day. Especially if we're waiting till mid May. I'd say we might want to limit his starts in Arlington though.

Not bad at all from someone who hadn't pitched in so long in the big leagues. All of those baserunners will catch up to him at some point, but hopefully as he gets back into the swing of things the baserunners that he allows will be fewer.

At least he gets to pitch in Seattle and avoid the Orioles lineup in Arlington.

This is an interesting stat. I don't think the number of pitches tells you a whole lot by itself though. Also, did the success come from seeing a lot of pitches or was a lot of pitches being thrown the result of the success of getting 10 hits. More likely, it was some of both. I think offensive success has a lot to do with hitting mainly and if the pitcher isn't going to give you anything to hit you have to be patient enough to not swing and make him throw strikes.

You have to be able to adapt. I remember one of our most successful nights against a very good pitcher came last September against Dallas Keuchel. He only lasted 4.2 innings yet we didn't manage a single walk against him. He wanted to throw strikes and we were ready to hit the ball when he did. We wore him out instead of trying to wear him down. Two-thirds of his pitches were thrown for strikes and we made him pay for throwing strikes. In the game against Keuchel our batters only saw 3.64 pitches/PA. We had a game in April last year where we scored 10 runs and only saw 3.32 pitches/PA.

You can have success offensively more than one way. Sometimes they feed off of each other. When opposing pitchers know you will lay off of the pitches outside of the zone they are forced to throw more strikes. When you prove you can hit the ball they are tempted to try to make you swing at balls outside the zone. Then every once in awhile a guy like Pudge comes along and they don't know where to throw it because he was such a good bad ball hitter.

Kansas City led the Majors in percentage of pitches (20.7) and swings (43.2) put in play -- and in fewest number of swings and misses: 19.7. The Royals were last in the Majors last year in pitches seen per plate appearance: 3.71.

The difference in the team with the fewest number of pitches seen per plate appearance and the team with the most in 2015 was only .26 pitches per plate appearance. So on average the best team at seeing pitches is going to make a starting pitcher throw 7 more pitches than the worst team at seeing pitches if that starter faces 27 batters. So far this season our opposing starter has faced an average of 24 batters.

Just some things to think about.

5 starts in, and 4 of them have been quality.
