Monta Ellis and Ekpe Udoh to Utah for Devin Harris and Derrek Favors.

While I like Udoh's game, he'll be 25 in May, and he will never be a star. Harris' deal is a year shorter than Monta's, and he makes 2 million less annually. If we made this deal, he and Curry would presumably share PG duties with Rush, Klay, Wright, and McGuire taking the minutes at the wings.

While the W's save a little money and cap space, the real reason you roll the dice here is to nab Favors. He is still extremely young, but he has an NBA body that is only getting bigger. Does he develop into a top 5 center (like Hibbert, Noah, and Bynum did) after a few years in the league? Is it worth two players who probably won't ever be much better than they are right now to find out?

I'm not totally sure I pull the trigger on this one, but it certainly got me thinking...

The only reason I would say no to this deal is that we're moving pieces that are arguably two of our best trade assets and don't shed any dead weight in the process. We get Favors but like you said he's only talent at this point. I also don't really see Utah moving Favors. If anything they're trying to get rid of Jefferson to get Favors more PT.

edit: I would highly consider it if Utah gives our pick back.

I heard an interview with Riley where he said that he was working on deals that would get us a first round pick OR would get our first rounder back. Wouldn't be surprised to see a deal with the Jazz.

That's what got me thinking about a trade with Utah in the first place, I just wasn't sure they would be willing to part with it.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm not saying that I would definitely pull the trigger on this deal, but I do think it's worth considering.

In regards to what CitySushi said-- I agree, Udoh and Monta are two of our best trade pieces. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that they are worth enough around the league to allow us to shed the aforementioned "dead weight," especially with the new CBA. Monta is an explosive player, but does anyone like him enough to pay him 20 million per year (packaging him with the useless Biedrins would essentially mean that)?

Is Ekpe Udoh really anything more than the 4th-7th best player on a playoff team? Does anyone feel comfortable enough with Curry's ankle(s) or Ekpe's "potential" to take on the Lee or Andris albatross contracts?

I wish I could say yes, but I'm not so sure. Shedding a bit of salary and getting back a young, high ceiling big might be our most realistic option at this point. Also, if we made this deal and Curry's injury woes continued, we'd probably be bad enough to keep our pick straight up...

Welcome to the new Warriors board rtiff. Glad to see you over here. The thing I don't like about the trade is having Monta still in the Western Conference. I don't know that I want to see him facing the Warriors in a new uniform multiple times per year.

Thanks, Cam. It's good to see a lot of familiar faces, figuratively speaking. I've actually been lurking around here for a few weeks, I've just been too busy with unimportant things (work, family, friends) to really focus on what matters (posting on message boards, gchat, etc.).

Your point about shipping Monta out of the Western Conference makes a ton of sense; that said, I wouldn't pass on the best deal out there just to prevent facing Monta Ellis two more times per year. In the end, I'm in support of any move that either...

1) Acquires a star (we already blew a rare opportunity to pull this off by not dealing Curry for Paul)

2) Stockpiles young assets (while clearing as much cap space as possible)

Doing either one of these things will help put the Warriors exactly where all of us want them: over 50 wins or under 20-- good enough to compete in the playoffs, or bad enough to secure a top 4 draft pick.
