I'm no expert, but I think the soft cap allows you to go over when you re sign your current players. You can't just add new contracts though.

The Lakers will have minimal ways to sign free agents this summer. Pretty much all the options they'll have is veteran's minimum contracts and I believe their mini-MLE. The new CBA makes it harder and harder for teams over the cap to sign free agents. This is what will make the summer of 2014 interesting for the Heat with their pending cap issues/player options.

Agree. That's why I questoned the list of FA's earlier as going to the Lakers.

I think they have little wiggle room this season regardless of Howard staying or going UNLESS in addition they use their amnesty somewhere.

I think even if they don't resign Howard and then amnesty Kobe, the Lakers are still right at the cap when including cap holds, etc. The Lakers pretty much gave up any flexibility for the 2013/2014 season with eyes on the summer of 2014 when most everything comes off the books.

The refs didnt cost the Heat the game. They didn't help the cause, but whatever.

Give me the Heat in the best of 3 with 2 at home against the Pacers anytime. I'm not the least bit concerned.

You shouldnt be. Heat have the most talent in the NBA.

Thanks Bots and Lakers, but yeah of those on the list Marion and Allen are the most expensive players... I think it's worth a swing to see if they'll sign at a discount, if not no harm... I think Marion, Allen and Dunleavy are the only ones asking for millions... The other guys are hundred thousand guys... Antwan, Meeks and Clark are all going to be FA I think Duhon as well, those are all slots that can be filled at a cheaper rate...

I'd love to see:

Chalmers
Kobe
Budinger
Artest
Dwight

If Dantoni is going to stay...

Chalmers has a player option with the Heat at 4M. I expect him to stay. However, if he were to choose to leave, the only reason would be because somebody offered him substantially more money.

How can you possibly include his name on the premise of signing at a cheaper rate?

Didn't realize he had a player option... Unlike many I think Chalmers is a very solid PG and does very well having to play without the ball... So I think his contract is worth it, but I wouldn't give him more than 4 and really I'd aim at 2mil but would be good with 3 a year... But yeah to your point Lakers more than likely cant afford him with Nash and Blake then Morris and maybe Duhon... Not sure when we get rid of him, hopefully soon...(Duhon)
