it's actually quite correct, but thanks for the response.

It's "quite correct" to someone with no comprehension of the evolution of the game maybe.

Look I am not going to banter back and forth with you, you are wrong and I am incredibly comfortable with that.

This actually couldn't be any more incorrect.

You realize by using a double negative you actually said you were agreeing with him right?

2.Johnny Unitas

4.Kenny Stabler
5.Dan Marino

Stabler & Bradshaw ??? There are some old school QBs that should be in the conversation, but those aren't 2 of them. From a purely physical ability standpoint, the QB position has probably changed less than any other over time. There are plenty of old school guys who, had they grown up in this era, would still be great. But I'm not going to bother to argue with the kids who don't know any better.

So Ilooked at QBs using yards, pass tds, comp%, QB rating, MVPs, SB MVP's and SB wins. Looked at the top 10 in every category and gave them 10 points for being 1st in a category, 9 for being 2nd etc etc. The rankings and total point valuations I came up with are

1. Peyton Manning 45 points
2. Tom Brady 43 points
3. Drew Brees 33 points
4. Brett Favre 30 points
5. Joe Montana 28 points
5t. Aaron Rodgers 28 points
7. John Elway 22 points
8t. Steve Young 21 points
8t. Kurt Warner 21 points
10. Dan Marino 19 points

- Looks like as good a list as any. Just missed are Terry Bradshaw 18 points, Bart Starr 17 points, Johnny Unitas 17 points, Eli Manning 16 points, Warren Moon 15 points and Fran Tarkenton 13 points

I'm also stunned no has said Rodgers. He's statistically the greatest QB ever, and while that's not conclusive, he did win a Super Bowl and lead the worst ranked defense in the league to a 15-1 record.

I know he's only started 86 games, but I still think he has to be ranked way ahead of almost everyone listed.

No Money, you're way off buddy, back in those days football was a real man's game.....No sissy rules about hitting the QB's helmet or too low, no pass interference unless you ripped the guys arm off....Line men on both sides would use hands to the face , cut block, hold, throw to the ground was all very common....And hitting a defenseless player, not heard of.......It was a much rougher game back then by far....They played with injuries that would sideline these guys today.....Bradshaw and Unitas were tough as nails, if they could walk on the field, they played.....So those qb's were even more effective than these today....I'm an oldie, I saw it all...

Actually no. Saying he couldn't be any more incorrect is exactly what I meant. You may want to break it down again.

I'm not sure how any of this makes it easier to pass back then.

The only top 10 list Aikman made was SB wins. He has 9 points. I gave consideration to giving double points for SB wins but then Brady would be number 1 and your head would explode :) LOL

Sorry mojo. You don't know what you're talking about. When the rules changed to make passing easier, QB stats rose dramatically. That wasn't because the QBs all of the sudden got better. Another thing you ignore is that offensive players they'd be throwing the ball to back then were no better physically than the defensive ones guarding them. The OL guys protecting were no better than the DL guys putting on the pressure. The only difference was the rules. The OL wasn't allowed to grab & hold and the DBs could beat up the WRs until the ball was in the air.

Pretty interesting idea you came up with. Have you seen someone else do this? And so all measureables are equally weighted? This could be interesting. It obviously needs some tweaking though.
