Again, holding my nose and voting for A-rod. Though the OPS+ numbers are closer than I thought they would be ... mainly because Vaughn was a monster in OBP and triples.

Pre-Analysis thoughts - I was about to auto-vote ARod, but then I remembered ARod has been a 3B for about 10 years now. On to the analysis...

OPS+ (ARod/Vaughan)
120 - 8/9
130 - 7/8
140 - 5/6
150 - 4/1
160 - 3/1
170 - 0/1 (190)

Interesting breakdown. Vaughan had the MUCH better best season, but ARod was slightly more consistently elite.

oWAR7
ARod - 56.7
Vaughan - 49.7

Defense
ARod was always a bat-first SS, but I never got the sense he was a BAD SS. While I don't trust the stat, his dWAR agrees with my memory here.

I had never heard of Vaughan before this tourney, so I have nothing to go by except his dWAR. According to dWAR, he was almost identical to ARod.

Accolades
ARod - 1 MVP, 6 top 10 MVPs, 7 ASGs, 7 SS
Vaughan - 2 top 10 MVPs, 9 ASGs

Summary
In yet another EXTREMELY close matchup, I gotta go with ARod here. Vaughan had the better single season (by a good margin), but there really isn't anything else where he beats ARod. But ARod does not win anything handily except in Accolades, and that is the one analysis point that I weigh the least.

Winner: ARod

Power- ARod wins(NOT CLOSE)
XBH%
AROD- Career=10.5, Best=13.4,#of 499+PA seasons better than average=10, MLB average=7.8(2.7)
Arky-Career=7.5, Best=10.3, 499+PA better=4, MLB average=6.4(1.1)

BB- Vaughan wins(very close)
BB%
AROD-Career=11.1, Best=15, 499+PA seasons better than average=9, MLB average=8.6(2.5)
Arky-Career=12.1, Best=16.8, 499+PA seasons better=5, MLB average=8.8(3.3)

SO- Vaughan wins(NOT CLOSE)

BA- Vaughan wins(close)
AROD-Career=.297, Best=.358, 499+seasons better than average=10, MLB average=.270(.027)
Arky-Career=.318, Best=.385, 499+PA seasons better than average=6, MLB average=.276(.042)

Speed-AROD wins(NOT CLOSE)- CS was not a recorded stat when Vaughan played, but he never had more than 20 SB(but lead in SB that one season with 20), while AROD was a good base stealer in his younger days(6 seasons of 20 or more SB and a .75%+, one season with 46 SB and 78%)

defense-Vaughan wins(very close)
dWAR
AROD-Career=10(SS+3B), Best=2.3(SS), seasons 1 or over=7(2 as 3B), better than 0=14(6 as 3B)
Arky- Career=12, Best=2.8, seasons 1 or over=6, better than 0=14

Career longevity- AROD wins(nearly 4000 more PA)
positional longevity- Vaughan wins(200 more games)
499+PA seasons- AROD=17, Vaughan=11

Closer than I thought it would be... Every comparison is close except for power,SO, and career longevity(although positional longevity is close). Power is the big difference here, so AROD wins...
