For the third week in a row the RF matchup is the best of the week. Due you like BA or Homers? How soon before the Roids are brought up?

I can forgive the roads because of all the arguments I have made in the 18,738 Bonds threads that have come up on forums over the last 10 years or so.

But Sosa falls into a special class, along with Palmeiro, though. Sosa has the corked bat on top of everything else. Also, without the juice, I do not believe he would have been elite.

BUT...

His numbers WERE so Goad-Damned dominant. His numbers were near Bonds-like.

But then, on the other side, you have one of the greatest bat-control players in the history of the game. A guy who is WELL known as one of the great clubhouse-guys in the history of the game. He is one of the very few once in an organization guys. He IS Mr Padre.

So how much do the intangibles count in a battle like this?

If it were not SOOOO black-and-white, as it is in this case, I would likely say "none at all". But this one is a black-and-white situation, so I think it needs to enter the conversation.

I am strongly leaning towards Gwynn here, but I am going to hold off a day or so to hear some arguments.

When comparing greats to greats I do think tony Gwynn is extremely overrated. Again, I hate players who don't homer AND don't walk.

sosa was absolutely dominant at his peak. I'll go Sosa

Gonna go with Gwynn...even with the great prime for Sosa, Gwynn has a better OPS+ and WAR. Sosa's body of work outside of that 5-year prime (which accounts for nearly 2/3 of his total games) is nothing special.

I think we just had a winning argument.
