career longevity- Yaz wins(600 more PA)
# of seasons 500PA or over- Rickey=17 Yaz=20 SO Yaz wins

so clearly Yaz is the power guy vs Rickey the speed guy... I give the win to Rickey since he was a better speed guy than yaz power... Rickey's lead off skills were much better than Yaz's middle of the lineup skills since Rickey was significantly better at getting on base...

Pre-analysis bias: I dread this matchup. Ricky is one of my all-time favorites. He brought everything to the table.. The greatest base stealer in the history of the game, but he was also a power threat. Yaz is one of the elites that I am not specifically familiar with. No idea where this will end.

OPS+ (Henderson/Yaz)
120 - 16/12
130 - 12/8
140 - 7/6
150 - 4/4
160 - 1/3
170 - 1/3
180 - 1/1 (189/193)

Ricky was more consistent, but Yaz had the better top seasons (156, 171, 177, 193 for Yaz vs 151, 155, 157, 189 for Ricky). Winner: Ricky (VERY close - bias probably put Ricky over the top)

I never saw Yaz play. He retired a few years before I "found" the game, so I don't remember what his D was like. I THINK Ricky was decent, but I don't remember specifically. Metrics say neither were great, but neither were a detriment, either. Tie.

oWAR7
Henderson - 47.4
Yaz - 45.8

Base stealing
Yaz stole bases, but he also got caught quite a bit. He had 6 seasons of at least 10 SBs, but only once did he have a 75% or better rate (11/1). Ricky was Ricky. Ricky consistently led the lead in CS, but even while doing that he was typically well above the 75% threshold. 3 seasons with 100+ SBs. 13 seasons with 50+. This was as not a weapon for Yaz while Ricky used this as a weapon like only 2 players in the history of the game had even come close (Cobb and Brock) and he made both of them look pedestrian by comparison.

Take speed away, and this is a VERY close comparison.

Winner: Ricky

First off OBP Henderson lead the league 1 time while Yaz lead 5 times. Yes Henderson has a.022 higher career OBP, but Yaz played his prime years in what is considered one of if the not the greatest pitching ERAs.

Yaz lead the league 4 times in OPS+ while Henderson only lead once. Overall Yaz was 3 points higher for his career.

Henderson lead in RC 6.8 to 6.3 but once again Yaz lead the league more often 4 to 1.

Yes Yaz played in 300 more games but he lead Henderson by 136 doubles and 155 Homers but trailed by 3 triples.

Speed was huge plus for Henderson.

Yaz won three batting titles while Henderson never one. Yaz also holds a .006 lead over Henderson for their careers.

Yaz won three Slugging titles to Henderson's none and holds a career lead of .043 for their careers.

Defensively I consider LF to by the position you try and hide your offensive player you want in the lineup. So IMO LF defense isn't a major factor.

Finally which player would you rather have in your clubhouse? Yaz I don't remember ever hearing anything good or bad about him as a teammate, while Henderson was always a ME FIRST player.

I think this one is closer than most of y'all are saying and let Henderson cancer on the team be my final decision maker.
