 I thought this one was going to be close, but the only thing Brett has Jones in is BA. and that is only .002 points for their careers. Brett also has D, but neither one of them were that great at D.

I really was surprised to see the difference between these two.

OPS+ Brett/Jones

120 - 12/12
130 - 9/9
140 - 8/8
150 - 3/6
160 - 2/6
170 - 2/2
180 - 1/0 (203)

Interesting spread. Jones was more consistent, but Brett had the MONSTER season.

oWAR7

Brett - 47.8
Jones - 47.3

Wow. SUPER close...

Accolades...

Brett - 1 MVP, 3 top 10 MVP, 11 All-Star, 2 SS
Jones - 1 MVP, 5 top 10 MVP, 8 All-Star, 2 SS

Neither utilized speed as a major weapon, but Jones did have 2 20/75% seasons.

I am not a fan of defensive metrics, but in an analysis this close, I have to at least look at it...

As a 3B, Brett only had 2 negative seasons and had 6 seasons greater that 1.0 and 2 seasons greater than 2.0. Jones had 6 negative seasons and only 1 season over 1.0.

Summary...

Jones had the better bat. Brett had the better season, but Jones had 6 150+ compared to Brett's 3, and 6 160+ vs Brett's 2.

Brett has a slightly better oWAR7, but they are within 1% of each other.

According to metrics, Brett was the better defender.

I think I will have to go with Jones because of his offensive consistency, but for me, this one is SUPER close.

First off, I did not realize how close this was going to be... They are pretty much ties at BA and power... But Chipper was a monster on base guy... so I give the offensive edge slightly to chipper... But the defense and longevity all go to Brett...

In a surprise upset I have Brett winning here... I really thought this was not going to be close and a clear win for Chipper...

I love Chipper. Great player, switch hitting weapon. That said, Brett was a an awesome player. Two of my favorites, I have Brett winning, but can see either argument
